1 Alif lam ra. A book whose verses have been detailed from a wise one, an expert. 2 That you do not worship but Allah. I am a nadhir and a bearer of good news to you from him. 3 And ask for forgiveness of your lord to make you enjoy good for a designated term and give every possessor of favour his favour. But if you turn away, then I fear the torture of a big day for you. 4 To Allah is your return and he is mighty over everything. 5 Indeed, they fold their chests to hide from him. Indeed, when they cover themselves with their thiyab he knows what they conceal and what they reveal. He knows what is in chests. 6 And there is no beast on the Earth but its provision is on Allah. And he knows its dwelling-place and its depository. All is in a clear book. 7 And he is the one who created the skies and the Earth in six days. And his throne was on the water to test you, which of you is best in deed. But if you say: You are raised after death, those who have disbelieved will say: This is nothing but obvious magic. 8 And if we have held the torture back from them until a certain nation they will say: What is holding it back? Indeed, on a day it comes to them it is not removed from them and what they used to mock encompassed them. 9 And if we made man taste mercy from us then took it away from him he is despairing, ungrateful. 10 And if we have made him taste kindness after calamity has touched him he will say: The evils have gone from me. He is a rejoicer, proud. 11 Except those who have been patient and have done the righteous deeds, those, theirs is forgiveness and a big wage. 12 Then perhaps you are leaving some of what you are inspired with and your chest is straitened by it because they say: Why has a treasure not been sent down upon him or an angel come with him? You are only a nadhir. And Allah is an agent over everything. 13 Or they say: He has fabricated it. Say: Then bring ten surahs the like of it, fabricated, and invoke whom you can instead of Allah if you are truthful. 14 Then if they do not respond to you then know that it has been sent down with Allah’s knowledge and that there is no god but him. So are you Muslims? 15 He who was wanting the dunya life and its adornment, we pay their deeds to them in full therein and they are not belittled therein. 16 Those are the ones who have nothing in the hereafter but the fire. And become worthless has what they did therein and vain is what they used to do. 17 So is he who was on a proof from his lord and reads it, a witness from him, and before it Musa’s book as a guideline and a mercy? Those believe in it and he who disbelieves in it among the parties, the fire is his appointment. So do not be in doubt about it. It is the truth from your lord but most people do not believe. 18 And who is more unjust than he who has fabricated a lie against Allah? Those are presented before their lord and the witnesses say: These are the ones who lied against their lord. Indeed, Allah’s curse is upon the wrongdoers. 19 Those who block from the way of Allah and seek it as crookedness and they in the hereafter are kafirun. 20 Those were not escaping on the Earth and they had no protectors instead of Allah. The torture is doubled for them. They were not able to hear nor did they see. 21 Those are the ones who have lost their souls and strayed from them has what they used to fabricate. 22 There is no misdemeanour that they in the hereafter are the losers. 23 Those who have believed and have done the righteous deeds and have been humble to their lord, those are the companions of the Jannah, they are abiding therein indefinitely. 24 The similitude of the two parties is like the blind man and the deaf and the seer and the hearer. Are they equal in likeness? So do you not remember? 25 We sent Nuh to his people. I am an obvious nadhir for you: 26 Do not worship but Allah. I fear for you torture of a painful day. 27 Then the chiefs of those who had disbelieved of his people said: We do not see you but as a human being the like of us and we do not see you, have followed you, but those who are our vile ones, rash in opinion. And we do not see for you any favour over us. Rather, we think you are lying. 28 He said: People, have you seen if I were on a proof from my lord and he has given me mercy from him but it was obscured from you, are we to make you adhere to it when you are averse from it? 29 And people, I do not ask of you money for it. My wage is nothing but on Allah. And I am not going to chase those who have believed. They are meeting their lord. But I see you an ignorant people. 30 And people, who would help me against Allah if I chased them? So do you not remember? 31 And I do not say to you I have Allah’s treasuries and I do not know the ghayb and I do not say that I am an angel nor do I say for those whom your eyes look down on, Allah will not give them good. Allah knows what is in their souls. I then would be of the wrongdoers. 32 They said: Nuh, you have argued with us and have increased in arguing with us. So bring what you promise us if you are of the truthful. 33 He said: Only Allah brings you it if he wills and you are not going to escape. 34 And my advice does not benefit you if I want to advise you, if Allah was wanting to tempt you. He is your lord and to him are you returned. 35 Or do they say: He has fabricated it? Say: If I have fabricated it then upon me is my guilt and I am innocent of what you incriminate. 36 And Nuh was inspired: None will believe of your people but him who has believed. So do not be sad about what they have been doing. 37 And make the ship under our eyes and our inspiration and do not address me concerning those who have wronged. They are drowned. 38 And they make the ship and every time the chiefs of his people passed by him they mocked him. He said: If you mock us then we shall mock you as you mock. 39 And you will know whom torture comes upon, disgracing him and lasting torture shifts upon him. 40 Until when our command came and the oven overflowed. We said: Load therein, of all two pairs and your family except whom the speech has preceded against, and him who has believed. And none believed with him except a few. 41 And he said: Embark therein in the name of Allah, its course and its anchorage. My lord is a forgiver, merciful. 42 And it runs with them on waves like mountains and Nuh called his son and he was on retreat. My son, embark with us and do not be with the kafirun. 43 He said: I shall look for shelter on a mountain; it will grant me full protection from the water. He said: There is no protector today from Allah’s command except whom he has had mercy on. And the waves passed between them and he was of the drowned. 44 And it was said: Earth, swallow your water and sky, refrain. And the water subsided and the command was executed. And it ascended upon the Judi. And it was said: Annihilation for the wrongdoing people. 45 And Nuh invoked his lord and said: Lord, my son is of my family and your promise is the truth. And you are the most just of judges. 46 He said: Nuh, he is not of your family. It is a deed other than righteous so do not ask of me what you have no knowledge of. I warn you lest you be of the ignorant. 47 He said: Lord, I take refuge in you that I should ask of you what I have no knowledge of. And unless you forgive me and have mercy on me I am of the losers. 48 It was said: Nuh, get down with peace from us and blessings upon you and upon nations from those with you. And nations shall we amuse then painful torture touches them from us. 49 That is from the news of the ghayb; we inspire you with it. You were not knowing it, you nor your people before this. So be patient. The result is for the fearers. 50 And to Ad their brother Hud. He said: People, worship Allah. You have no god other than him. You are nothing but fabricators. 51 People, I do not ask of you a wage for it. My wage is nothing but upon the one who split me. So do you not comprehend? 52 And people, ask for forgiveness of your lord then repent to him. He sends the sky upon you in profusion and increases you, strength to your strength. And do not turn away as criminals. 53 They said: Hud, you have not brought us proofs and we are not going to leave our gods from your speech and we are not believers in you. 54 We say nothing except some of our gods have attacked you with evil. He said: I call Allah to witness and you witness that I am innocent of what you associate 55 Instead of him. So plan against me altogether then do not give me respite. 56 I have put my trust in Allah, my lord and your lord. There is no beast but he takes it by its forelock. My lord is on a straight path. 57 So if you turn away then I have conveyed to you what I was sent to you with. And my lord appoints a people other than you as successor and you do not harm him at all. My lord is a keeper over everything. 58 And when our command came we saved Hud and those who believed with him by mercy from us and we saved them from boorish torture. 59 And that is Ad. They denied their lord’s signs and beat his messengers and followed the command of every obstinate tyrant. 60 And they have been followed in this dunya by a curse and on the day of resurrection. Indeed, Ad disbelieved their lord so away with Ad, Hud’s people! 61 And to Thamud their brother Salih. He said: People, worship Allah. You do not have any god other than him. He constructed you from the Earth and colonised you thereon. So ask him for forgiveness then repent to him. My lord is near, responsive. 62 They said: Salih, you were hoped for among us before this. Do you forbid us to worship what our fathers worship? And we are in doubt about what you call us to. Suspicious. 63 He said: People, have you seen if I am upon a proof from my lord and he has given me mercy from him so who would help me against Allah if I disobeyed him? So you would not increase other than in loss. 64 And people, this is Allah’s cow camel, a sign for you. So leave her to eat on Allah’s Earth and do not touch her with evil that close torture take you. 65 But they hamstrung her and he said: Amuse yourselves in your home for three days. That is a promise that is not false. 66 So when our command came we saved Salih and those who had believed with him with mercy from us and from the disgrace of that day. Your lord, he is the strong, the mighty. 67 And the cry took those who had wronged and they became perching in their homes. 68 As though they had not availed in it. Indeed, Thamud disbelieved their lord. Indeed, away with Thamud! 69 And our messengers came to Ibrahim with the good news. They said: Peace. He said: Peace. And he did not stay to bring a roasted calf. 70 But when he saw their hands not reaching towards it he felt unfamiliar about them and felt a fear of them. They said: Do not fear. We have been sent to Lut’s people. 71 And his woman standing and she laughed. Then we gave her good news of Ishaq and behind Ishaq Ya’qub. 72 She said: Woe is me! Do I beget when I am an old woman and this my husband is as an old man? This is a wondrous thing. 73 They said: Do you wonder at Allah’s command? Allah’s mercy and his blessings be upon you, household. He is praiseworthy, glorious. 74 And when the terror had gone from Ibrahim and the good news had come to him he argues with us concerning Lut’s people. 75 Ibrahim is clement, a groaner, repentant. 76 Ibrahim, turn away from this. Your lord’s command has come and a torture is coming to them that is not repelled. 77 And when our messengers had come to Lut he was distressed on their account and was straitened on their account with unease and he said: This is a difficult day. 78 And his people came to him rushing towards him and before they were doing the evil deeds. He said: People, these are my daughters. They are purer for you. So fear Allah and do not disgrace me concerning my guest. Is there not a reasonable man among you? 79 They said: You knew we had no right concerning your daughters and you know what we want. 80 He said: If only I had power over you or look for shelter at a strong corner. 81 They said: Lut, we are your lord’s messengers. They will not reach towards you so travel at night with your family in a part of the night and do not let anyone of you look back except your woman. What has struck them is striking her. Their appointment is the morning. Is the morning not near? 82 So when our command came we made its high its low and rained upon it stones of piled argil. 83 Marked with your lord. And it is not far from the wrongdoers. 84 And to Madyan their brother Shuaib. He said: People, worship Allah. You have no god other than he. And do not decrease the measure and the balance. I see you with good and I fear for you torture of an encompassing day. 85 And people, give the measure in full and the scale in equity and do not undervalue people’s things and do not act immorally in the land corrupting. 86 Allah’s remainder is better for you if you are believers. And I am not a keeper over you. 87 They said: Shuaib, does your salat command you that we leave what our fathers worship or that we do what we will concerning our monies? You are the reasonable clement one. 88 He said: People, have you seen if I were on a proof from my lord and he has provided me from him with a good provision? And I do not want to disagree with you in what I forbid you from. I do not want but reform as much as I have been able. And my reconciliation is not but with Allah. In him I have put my trust and to him I turn. 89 And people, let my schism not incite you lest the like of what struck Nuh’s people or Hud’s people or Salih’s people strike you. And Lut’s people are not far from you. 90 And ask your lord for forgiveness then repent to him. My lord is merciful, loving. 91 They said: Shuaib, we do not comprehend much of what you say and we see you as weak among us. And had it not been for your tribe we would have stoned you and you are not mighty over us. 92 He said: People, is my tribe mightier over you than Allah? And you have taken him behind your backs. My lord is informed of what you do. 93 And people, work on your position. I am working. You will know to whom torture comes that will disgrace him and him who is lying. And watch. I am a watchman with you. 94 And when our command came we saved Shuaib and those who believed with him with mercy from us. And those who had wronged the cry took and they became perching in their homes. 95 As though they had not availed therein. Indeed, away with Madyan as Thamud perished! 96 And we sent Musa with our signs and clear authority 97 To Fir’awn and his chiefs but they followed Fir’awn’s command and Fir’awn’s command was not reasonable. 98 He precedes his people on the day of resurrection and has led them to the fire. And miserable was the watering hole arrived at. 99 And they have been followed in this by a curse and on the day of resurrection miserable was the gift provided. 100 That is from the news of the villages which we tell you. Some of them standing and a crop. 101 And we did not wrong them but they wronged themselves. So their gods that they invoke instead of Allah did not avail them at all when your lord’s command came. And they did not increase them other than destruction. 102 And thus is your lord’s taking when he has taken the villages while they are wronging. His taking is painful, severe. 103 In that there is a sign for him who has feared the torture of the hereafter. That is a day people are gathered for it and that is a witnessed day. 104 And we do not postpone it except for a certain term. 105 On a day it comes a soul does not speak except with his permission. Then among them a wretched one and a happy. 106 And as for those who were wretched, in the fire. Theirs therein is exhalation and inhalation. 107 Abiding indefinitely therein for as long as the skies and the Earth have lasted except what your lord has willed. Your lord is a doer of what he wants. 108 And as for those who were happy, in the Jannah. Abiding indefinitely therein for as long as the skies and the Earth have lasted except what your lord has willed, a gift not cut off. 109 So do not be in doubt about what these worship. They do not worship except as their fathers worship before. And we are paying them their share in full undecreased. 110 And we gave Musa the Book but it was differed concerning it. And had it not been for a word that preceded from your lord it would have been decided between them. And they are in suspicious doubt about it. 111 And each when your lord pays them in full. He is an expert in what they do. 112 So be straight as you were commanded and he who has repented with you and do not be excessive. He is a seer of what you do. 113 And do not incline to those who have wronged that the fire touch you and you have no protectors instead of Allah, then you are not helped. 114 And perform salat the two ends of the day and commencements of the night. Good deeds remove evil ones. That is a remembrance for those who remember. 115 And be patient. And Allah does not waste the wage of the good-doers. 116 So why were there not of the centuries before you, remainder possessors, forbidding corruption in the land except a few of those we saved among them? And those who wronged followed what they had been given therein and they were criminals. 117 And your lord would not destroy the villages wrongfully when their people were reformers. 118 And had your lord willed he would have made people one nation and they are still differing. 119 Except whom your lord has had mercy on and for that has he created them. And your lord’s word was fulfilled: I will fill Jahannam with jinn and people, all. 120 And each do we relate to you of the news of the messengers what we fix your heart with. And the truth has come to you in this and exhortation and a recollection for the believers. 121 And say to those who do not believe: Work on your position. We are working. 122 And wait. We are waiting. 123 And Lah’s is the ghayb of the skies and the Earth and to him is the matter returned, all of it, so worship him and put your trust in him. And your lord is not unaware of what you do.
