Shall a Queen Give Herself To a Commoner?

Abu Nu'aym told us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Ghasil told us, from Hamzah bin Abi Usayd, from Abu Usayd--may Allah be pleased with him--, he said: We went out with the prophet [SAW] until we started out for a wall called Al-Shaut, until we ended up at two walls and we sat between them. And the prophet [SAW] said: "Sit here." And he entered and the Jauniyyah was brought and was lodged in the house of Umaymah bt Al-Nu'man bin Sharahil and with her was her wet-nurse, her caregiver, and

Not Like One Of the Women

S 33:32 Women of the prophet’s, you are not like one of the women. If you have feared then do not be submissive in speech so that the one in whose heart is disease desires, and say decent speech. As so often in quran, the author uses the word 'women' in the sense of wives. There is a problem with the clause " you are not like one of the women." The Arabic has لَسْتُنَّ كَأَحَدٍ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ . The author uses the masculine أحد ahad . Now, he should have used the feminine

Adam the Muslim?

Muslims opine that Islam goes back to Adam. Ibn 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "(The structure of) Islam is built on five (pillars): Testification of 'La ilaha illallah' (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah), that Muhammad (ﷺ) is his slave and Messenger, the establishment of Salat, the payment of Zakat, the pilgrimage to the House of Allah (Ka'bah), and Saum during the month of Ramadan." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] ....

I'm Only Human

In this post we shall be looking at passages in which the founder of Islam says that he's only human. S 17:93  Or do you have a house of gold or do you ascend into the sky? And we shall not believe in your ascension until you bring down upon us a book we can read. Say: Praise be to my lord! Was I but a man, a messenger? The Meccans have been asking him to provide miracles to prove his messengerhood. As he says: " Was I but a man, a messenger?", is he saying that as he is huma

Alms

Narrated `Aisha: Three principles were established because of Barira: (i) When Banra was manumitted she was given the option (to remain with her slave husband or not). (ii) Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said "The Wala of the slave) is for the one who manumits (the slave). (iii) When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) entered (the house), he saw a cooking pot on the fire but he was given bread and meat soup from the soup of the home. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Didn't I see the cooking pot (on the fire

The Station of Ibrahim

S 2:125 And when we made the House a resort for people and security. And take from the Station of Ibrahim a musalla. And we covenanted to Ibrahim and Isma’il: Purify my house for the circumambulators and those devoted and those who bow, those doing sujud. S 3:97 Therein are clear signs, the Station of Ibrahim, and he who entered it was safe. And Lah’s, upon people is the Hijj of the House, he who was able a way to it . And he who has disbelieved, then Allah is rich from the ‘

The Splitting of the Moon

Muslims assume that the moon was split. S 54:1 The Hour has approached and the moon split. According to this, the moon split. But was there an agent? Or did it just split? Definitions of inshaqqa: Verb اِنْشَقَّ • (inšaqqa) VII ( non-past يَنْشَقُّ (yanšaqqu), verbal noun اِنْشِقَاق (inšiqāq)) to split , to part , to be divided , to break to split off , to part ; to defect , to secede to be laid open , to be undone , to split open so as to reveal , to be opened to v

Come To Allah and Be Counted

In this post we shall be looking at S 19:93, 94 and 95. S 19:93 There is none in the skies and the Earth but he comes to Al-Rahman as a slave. This follows on from verse 92 which states that it is not befitting for Al-Rahman to take or adopt a child. Now, as verse 93 states that there is none in the skies and Earth but comes as a slave, it suggests physical movement towards Al-Rahman, or Allah. This would mean that the angels and people of the sky physically move towards Al-R

The Mysterious Letters

Alif Lam Ra S 10:1 Alif lam ra. That--signs of the wise book. S 11:1 Alif lam ra. A book whose verses have been detailed from a wise one, an expert. S 12:1 Alif lam ra. Those are signs of the clear book. S 14:1  Alif lam ra. A book we have sent down to you that you may bring out people from the darknesses into the light, with their lord’s permission, to the path of the mighty, the praiseworthy, S 15:1 Alif lam mim. Those are the signs of the book and of a clear quran. Alif La

Spelling Issues

This is an extract from my post Odd Spellings and Other Quranic Oddities There is a number of spelling oddities in the Quran. One consistently misspelled word is 'angel', which is ملك malak in the said book but it should be ملاك mal'ak , from the Hebrew מלאך malakh . The Quranic spelling is the same as the word for 'king', malik . In the Quran the angel in charge of Hell is called Malik. S 43:77 Article: Allah’s Need for Human Sacrifice to Appease Hell’s Angelic Ruler – Answe
