1 Their account has approached for people when they are in neglect, turning away. 2 No dhikr produced from their lord comes to them but they have listened to it while they play, 3 Their hearts having fun. And those who have wronged have kept the confidential talk secret. Is this but a human being the like of you? So would you come to magic when you see? 4 He said: My lord knows the speech in the sky and the Earth. And he is the hearer, the learned. 5 Rather, they have said: Medleys of dreams. Rather, he has fabricated it. Rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign as was sent the first ones. 6 No village believed before them that we destroyed. So do they believe? 7 And we did not send before you except men; we inspire them. So ask the People of the Dhikr if you do not know. 8 And we did not make them a body not eating food and they were not aeonians. 9 Then we fulfilled for them the promise and saved them and him we willed and destroyed the wastrels. 10 We have sent down to you a book wherein is your dhikr. So do you not comprehend? 11 And how many we smashed of a village that was wrongdoing and we established after it other people! 12 Then when they perceived our horribleness, behold, they race from it. 13 Do not race but return to what you were spoiled with and your dwellings; perhaps you will be asked. 14 They said: Woe is us! We were wrongdoers. 15 Then that their call did not die down until we made them a crop, extinct. 16 And we did not create the sky and the Earth and what is between them playing. 17 Had we wanted to take a ‘fun’ we would have taken it from us if we were doers. 18 Rather, we slam the truth against falsehood and it defeats it and behold, it is perishing. And yours is the woe for what you ascribe. 19 And his are those in the skies and the Earth. And those with him are not arrogant to worship him nor do they tire. 20 They glorify night and day, not skimping. 21 Or have they taken gods from the Earth, they raising? 22 Had there been gods but Allah in them they would have been corrupted. So praise be to Allah, lord of the throne, from what they attribute. 23 He is not asked about what he does but they are asked. 24 Or have they taken gods instead of him? Say: Bring your proof. This is a dhikr of him with me and a dhikr of him before me. But most of them do not know the truth so they are averse. 25 And we did not send before you any messenger but we inspire him: There is no god but me so worship. 26 And they said: Al-Rahman has taken a child. Praise be to him! Rather, honoured slaves. 27 They do not precede him in speech and they act by his command. 28 He knows what is in front of them and what is behind them and they do not intercede except for him whom he has approved. And they are anxious from fear of him. 29 And he of them who says: I am a god instead of him. Then that we recompense with Jahannam. Thus do we recompense the wrongdoers. 30 Have those who have disbelieved not seen that the skies and the Earth were sewn-up and we cut them and made every living thing from water? So do they not believe? 31 And we put stabilisers in the Earth lest it should shake with them and we made therein passes as ways; perhaps they will be guided. 32 And we made the sky a guarded ceiling. But they turn away from its signs. 33 And he is the one who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon. All swim in an orbit. 34 And we did not make for man before you perpetuity. So if you die are they aeonians? 35 Every soul tastes death. And we test you with evil and good as fitnah. And to us are you returned. 36 And when those who have disbelieved see you they do not take you but as a quip. Is this the one who mentions your gods? And they are kafirun at the mention of Al-Rahman. 37 Man was created of haste. I shall show you my signs so do not ask me to hasten. 38 And they say: When is this promise if you are truthful? 39 If those who have disbelieved knew a time they would not keep the fire from their faces or from their backs and they are not helped. 40 Rather, it comes to them suddenly and shocks them then they are not able to repulse it and they are not looked at. 41 And messengers before you were mocked and what they used to mock surrounded those who had mocked them. 42 Say: Who will protect you in the night and the day from Al-Rahman? But they turn away from their lord’s dhikr. 43 Or do they have gods to defend them instead of us? They are not able to help themselves nor are they combined against us. 44 Rather, we amused these and their fathers until age finally overcame them. So do they not see that we come to the Earth, we reduce it from its edges? So are they the victors? 45 Say: I only warn you by inspiration. And the deaf do not hear the call when they are warned. 46 And if a whiff of your lord’s torture has touched them they will say: Woe is us! We were wrongdoers. 47 And we placed the balance of equity for the day of resurrection so a soul will not be wronged at all. And if there was a weight of a grain of mustard we brought it. And enough were we as accountants. 48 And we gave Musa and Harun the Furqan and a brightness and a dhikr for the fearers. 49 Those who fear their lord in the ghayb and they are anxious about the Hour. 50 And this is a blessed dhikr which we have sent down. So are you deniers of it? 51 And we gave Ibrahim his rectitude before and we used to know him. 52 When he said to his father and his people: What are these statues which you are devoted to? 53 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 54 He said: You and your fathers were in obvious error. 55 They said: Have you come to us with the truth or are you of the players? 56 He said: Rather, your lord is the lord of the skies and the Earth, the one who split them and I am of the witnesses to that. 57 And by Allah I will trick your idols after you run out fleeing. 58 So he made them pieces except a big one of them; perhaps they will return to it. 59 They said: Who has done this to our gods? He is of the wrongdoers. 60 They said: We heard a youth mentioning them called Ibrahim. 61 They said: Then bring him before the eyes of the people; perhaps they will bear witness. 62 They said: Did you do this to our gods, Ibrahim? 63 He said: No, their big one did this. So ask them, if they were speaking. 64 So they returned to themselves and said: You, you are the wrongdoers. 65 Then they were turned upside down on their heads. You knew these do not speak. 66 He said: Then do you worship instead of Allah what does not benefit you at all or harm you? 67 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah! Then do you not comprehend? 68 They said: Burn him and help your gods if you are doers. 69 We said: Fire, be cold and peace for Ibrahim. 70 And they wanted a scheme for him but we made them the losers. 71 And we saved him and Lut to the land which we had blessed for the ‘alamin. 72 And we gave him Ishaq and Ya’qub as a redundancy and all did we make righteous. 73 And we made them exemplars, guiding by our command. And we inspired them with the doing of good things and the performing of salat and the giving of zakat and they were worshippers of us. 74 And Lut whom we gave judgment and knowledge to and we saved him from the village that was doing filthy things. They were a people of evil, fasiqun. 75 And we admitted him into our mercy. He is of the righteous. 76 And Nuh when he called before and we responded to him and saved him and his family from the great distress. 77 And we helped him against the people who called our verses a lie. They were a people of evil so we drowned them all. 78 And Dawud and Sulayman when they judge concerning the tilth, when the people’s sheep pastured therein and we were witnesses to their judgment. 79 And we made Sulayman understand it and each did we give judgment and knowledge. And we subjected with Dawud the mountains glorifying and the bird. And we were doers. 80 And we taught him the making of a coat of mail for you to guard you from your horribleness. So are you grateful? 81 And to Sulayman the wind, a storm, running by his command to the land which we have blessed. And we were knowers of everything. 82 And of the devils those who dive for him and do work other than that. And we were keepers of them. 83 And Ayyub when he invoked his lord: I, harm has touched me and you are the most merciful of the merciful. 84 So we responded to him and removed what was on him of harm. And we gave him his family and the like of them with them as mercy from us and a remembrance for the worshippers. 85 And Isma’il and Idris and Dhul-Kifl, all of the patient. 86 And we admitted them into our mercy. They are of the righteous. 87 And Dhul Nun when he went angry and thought that we would not have power over him. Then he invoked in the darknesses: There is no god but you. Praise be to you! I was of the wrongdoers. 88 So we responded to him and saved him from the chagrin. And thus do we save the believers. 89 And Zakariyya when he invoked his lord: Lord, do not leave me alone and you are the best of inheritors. 90 So we responded to him and gave him Yahya and mended his husband for him. They would hasten in the good deeds and invoke us in desire and fright and were anxious towards us. 91 And the one who guarded her private part and we blew into her from our spirit and we made her and her son a sign to the ‘alamin. 92 This is your nation, one nation, and I am your lord so worship me. 93 And they cut off their affair among them, all are returning to us. 94 So he who does some of the righteous deeds and he is a believer, there is no kufran of his striving. And we are scribes for it. 95 And a haram is upon a village that we have destroyed, that they do not return. 96 Until when it had been opened for Ya’juj and Ma’juj. And they slip from every bend. 97 And the true promise has approached and behold, it, the eyesight of those who have disbelieved is staring. Woe is us! We were in heedlessness of this. Rather, we were wrongdoers. 98 You and what you worship instead of Allah are gravel of Jahannam. You are going down to it. 99 If these were gods they would not have gone down to it. And all abide therein indefinitely. 100 Theirs therein is exhalation and they therein do not hear. 101 Those for whom goodness has preceded from us, those are removed from it. 102 They do not hear its faint sound and they abide indefinitely in what their souls have desired. 103 The greatest apprehension does not grieve them and the angels receive them. This is your day which you were promised. 104 On a day we roll up the sky like the rolling-up of a scroll for books. As we began a first creation we repeat it, a promise upon us. We were doers. 105 And we wrote in the Zabur after the Dhikr: The Earth, my righteous slaves inherit it. 106 In this is a notice for a people that worships. 107 And we did not send you but as a mercy to the ‘alamin. 108 Say: I am only inspired that your god is one god. So are you Muslims? 109 But if they have turned away. say: I have announced to you equally. And I do not know whether what you are promised is near or far. 110 He knows the publicity of speech and knows what you conceal. 111 And I do not know; perhaps it is fitnah for you and enjoyment for a time. 112 He said: Lord, judge in truth. And our lord is Al-Rahman, the one sought for help against what they attribute.
