1 Those who have believed, do not precede in front of Allah and his messenger and fear Allah. Allah is a hearer, learned. 2 Those who have believed, do not raise your voices above the prophet or be loud for him in speech like the loudness to one another lest your deeds become worthless when you do not perceive. 3 Those who lower their voices in the presence of Allah’s messenger, those are the ones whose hearts Allah has examined for taqwa. Theirs is forgiveness and a great wage. 4 Those who call you from behind the apartments, most of them do not comprehend. 5 And had they been patient until you came out to them it would have been better for them. And Allah is a forgiver, merciful. 6 Those who have believed, if a fasiq comes to you with news then ascertain lest you afflict a people in ignorance then you become regretful over what you have done. 7 And know that among you is Allah’s messenger. Were he to obey you in much of the matter you would have been in trouble but Allah has endeared the faith to you and adorned it in your hearts and has made kufr and fusuq and disobedience hateful to you. Those are the rashidun. 8 Favour from Allah and grace. And Allah is learned, wise. 9 And if two parties of the believers fight, make peace between them. But if one of them violates the other, then fight the one that violates until it returns to Allah’s command. Then if it returns, make peace between them with justice and act equitably. Allah loves the equitable. 10 The believers are only brothers so make peace between your brothers and fear Allah; perhaps you will be shown mercy. 11 Those who have believed, let a people not mock a people; perhaps they are better than they, nor women women; perhaps they are better than they. And do not criticise yourselves or give opprobrious nicknames. Miserable was the name of fusuq after the faith. And those who have not repented, those are the wrongdoers. 12 Those who have believed, avoid much assumption. Some assumption is sin. And do not spy on or backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it. And fear Allah. Allah is a repenter, merciful. 13 People, we created you from a male and a female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Your most generous man with Allah is your most fearing. Allah is learned, an expert. 14 The Bedouins have said: We have believed. Say: You have not believed; but say: We have surrendered, and faith has not yet entered into your hearts. But if you obey Allah and his messenger, he does not deprive you of your deeds at all. Allah is a forgiver, merciful. 15 The believers are only those who have believed in Allah and his messenger then have not doubted and have waged jihad with their monies and themselves in the way of Allah. Those--they are the truthful. 16 Say: Do you teach Allah your religion when Allah knows what is in the skies and what is on the Earth? And Allah knows everything. 17 They are gracious to you that they have surrendered. Say: Do not be gracious to me, your Islam. Rather Allah is gracious to you that he has guided you to the faith, if you are truthful. 18 Allah knows the ghayb of the skies and the Earth. And Allah is a seer of what you do.
