S 53 (23) Al-Najm

1 By the star when it has sunk, 2 Your companion has not strayed nor enticed, 3 Nor does he speak from desire. 4 It is nothing but inspiration that is inspired. 5 The one severe in power has taught him, 6 A possessor of might and he ascended 7 When he is on the highest horizon. 8 Then he approached and dangled. 9 And he was at a distance of two bows or nearer. 10 So he inspired his slave what he inspired. 11 The heart did not lie what it saw. 12 So do you dispute with him about what he might see? 13 He saw him in another descent, 14 At Sidrat al-Muntaha. 15 By it is the Jannah of Shelter. 16 When the buckthorn covered what it covers, 17 The sight did not swerve nor play the tyrant. 18 He saw of the great signs of his lord. 19 So have you seen Al-Lat and Al-Uzza 20 And Manat, the third, the other? 21 Is for you the male and for him the female? 22 That then is an unfair division! 23 They are nothing but names you have named them, you and your fathers. Allah did not send down any authority for them. They follow nothing but supposition and what their souls have desired. And the guidance has come to them from their lord. 24 Or is man’s what he has wished? 25 But Lah’s is the Hereafter and the first. 26 And how many of an angel in the skies whose intercession does not avail at all except after Allah has given permission for whom he wills and approves. 27 Those who do not believe in the hereafter give the angels the denomination of the female. 28 And they have no knowledge of it. They follow nothing but assumption. And assumption does not avail against the truth at all. 29 So turn away from him who has turned away from our dhikr and has not wanted anything but the dunya life. 30 That is their sum of knowledge. Your lord is a knower of him who has strayed from his way and he is a knower of him who has been guided. 31 And Lah’s is what is in the skies and what is on the Earth that he may recompense those who have done evil for what they have done and that he may recompense those who have done good with goodness. 32 Those who avoid the major sins and the fawahish except lamam. Your lord is the wide of forgiveness. He is a knower of you when he produced you from the Earth and when you are embryos in your mothers’ bellies. So do not purify yourselves. He is a knower of him who has feared. 33 So have you seen the one who has turned away 34 And given little and been niggardly? 35 Is the knowledge of the ghayb with him so he sees? 36 Or was not informed of what is in the sheets of Musa 37 And Ibrahim who completed? 38 A bearer not to bear another’s burden 39 And that it is not man’s except what he has striven for 40 And that his striving will be seen. 41 Then he is recompensed for it the fullest recompense. 42 And that to your lord is the end 43 And that he has made to laugh and weep 44 And that he has caused to die and has vivified 45 And that he created the two pairs, the male and the female, 46 From a drop when it is ejaculated 47 And that upon him is the other origin 48 And that he has enriched and made content 49 And that he is the lord of Sirius 50 And that he destroyed the first Ad 51 And Thamud and did not let stay. 52 And Nuh’s people before. They were more wrong-doing and more tyrannical. 53 And the overturned villages he made fall. 54 So he covered them what he covered. 55 So which of your lord’s favours do you doubt? 56 This is a nadhir from the first nudhur. 57 Al-Azifah has drawn near. 58 It does not have a revealer instead of Allah. 59 Then do you wonder at this hadith? 60 And you laugh and do not weep 61 While you are erect? 62 So do sujud to Lah and worship.
