1 Absolution from Allah and his messenger to those who have made a treaty with the mushrikun. 2 So go about in the land for four months but know that you cannot escape Allah and that Allah debases the kafirun. 3 An announcement from Allah and his messenger to people on the day of the greater Hajj that Allah is free from the mushrikun, and his messenger. So if you repent he is better for you. But if you turn away then know that you cannot escape Allah. And give good news to those who have disbelieved of painful torture. 4 Except those you have made a treaty with among the mushrikun then they have not reduced you at all and have not backed anyone against you. So complete their treaty with them until their term. Allah loves the fearers. 5 But when the sacred months have passed kill the mushrikun wherever you have found them and take them and besiege them and lie in wait for them at every place of observation. But if they repent and perform salat and give zakat spare them and send them on their way. Allah is a forgiver, merciful. 6 And if anyone of the mushrikun seeks your protection, grant him it until he hears Allah’s statement. Then convey him to his asylum. That is because they are a people who do not know. 7 How can there be a treaty with Allah and with his messenger for the mushrikun except those whom you have made a treaty at the Sacred Mosque? So what they have been straight for you so you be straight for them. Allah loves the fearers. 8 How while if they become manifest over you they do not await an illa among you or dhimmah? They satisfy you with their mouths and their hearts have refused and most of them are fasiqun. 9 They have bought Allah’s verses at a low price and hindered from his way. They, evil is what they used to do. 10 They do not dig in a believer an illa or a dhimmah. And those, they are transgressors. 11 But if they repent and perform salat and give the zakat, then your brothers in the religion. And we detail the verses for people who know. 12 And if they have broken their oaths after their treaty and have stabbed in your religion, fight the leaders of kufr. They--they have no oaths. Perhaps they will cease. 13 Will you not fight a people who have broken their oaths and have disquietened to expel the messenger and they have begun you the first time? Do you fear them? But Allah is worthier that you should fear him if you are believers. 14 Fight them, Allah tortures them at your hands and disgraces them and gives you victory over them and heals the chests of a believing people 15 And removes the rage of their hearts. And Allah repents for whom he wills. And Allah is learned, wise. 16 Or did you think that you would be left when Allah did not know those who waged jihad among you and they did not take a confidant instead of Allah and his messenger and the believers? And Allah is an expert in what you do. 17 It was not for the mushrikun to restore the mosques of Allah witnessing against themselves in kufr. Those, their deeds have become worthless and in the fire they abide indefinitely. 18 Only one who has believed in Allah and the last day and has performed salat and given the zakat and has not feared but Allah restores the mosques of Allah. Then perhaps those that they be of the guided. 19 Have you made the supplying of water of the pilgrim and the maintenance of the Sacred Mosque like one who has believed in Allah and the last day and has waged jihad in the way of Allah? They are not equal with Allah. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. 20 Those who have believed and have migrated and have waged jihad in the way of Allah with their monies and their souls are greater in degree with Allah. And those are the successful. 21 Their lord gives them good news of mercy from him and pleasure and jannat for them. Therein is long-term bliss. 22 Abiding therein forever. Allah has a great wage. 23 Those who have believed, do not take your fathers and your brothers as protectors if they have preferred kufr to faith. And those who take them as protectors among you, those are the wrongdoers. 24 Say: If your fathers and your sons and your brothers and your husbands and your clan and monies you have committed and trade you fear a slump therein and dwellings you have taken pleasure in are more beloved to you than Allah and his messenger and jihad in his way, then lie in wait until Allah brings his command. And Allah does not guide the fasiq people. 25 Allah has helped you in many regions and on the day of Hunain, when your multitude pleased you but did not avail you at all and the Earth became narrow for you despite its breadth then you turned back, fleeing. 26 Then Allah sent down his shekhinah upon his messenger and upon the believers and sent down troops you did not see and tortured those who had disbelieved. And that is the recompense of the kafirun. 27 Then Allah repents after that for whom he wills. And Allah is a forgiver, merciful. 28 Those who have believed, the mushrikun are only filth so let them not approach the Sacred Mosque after this year of theirs. And if you fear penury then Allah will enrich you from his favour, if he wills. Allah is learned, wise. 29 Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the last day and do not forbid what Allah and his messenger have forbidden and do not submit to the religion of truth of those who were given the Book until they give the jizyah from subjection while they are abased. 30 And the Jews said: Uzayr is the son of Allah and the Nasara said: The Messiah is the son of Allah. That is their speech with their mouths. They imitate the speech of those who disbelieved before. Allah fight them! How deluded they are! 31 They have taken their rabbis and their monks as lords instead of Allah and the Messiah the son of Maryam. And they were not commanded but to worship one god. There is no god but him. Praise be to him from what they associate! 32 They want to extinguish Allah’s light with their mouths, and Allah refuses except to perfect his light, even if the kafirun have disliked. 33 He is the one who has sent his messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion, even if the mushrikun dislike it. 34 Those who have believed, many of the rabbis and the monks consume the monies of the people in falsehood and hinder from the way of Allah. And those who amass gold and silver and do not spend it in the way of Allah, give them good news of painful torture. 35 On a day it is heated upon it in the fire of Jahannam and their foreheads and their sides and their backs are branded with it. This is what you amassed for yourselves so taste what you used to amass. 36 The ‘iddah of months with Allah is 12 months in Allah’s book on a day he created the skies and the Earth. Of them four are sacred. That is the worthy religion so do not wrong yourselves therein. And fight the mushrikun altogether as they fight you altogether. And know that Allah is with the fearers. 37 The postponing is only an increase in kufr. Those who have disbelieved stray thereby. They permit it one year and forbid it another to adjust an ‘iddah what Allah has forbidden and permit what Allah has forbidden. The evil of their deeds has been adorned for them. And Allah does not guide the kafirun people. 38 Those who have believed, what is the matter with you, when it was said to you: Stampede in the way of Allah, you were heavy to the land? Are you pleased with the dunya life than the hereafter? But what is the enjoyment of the dunya life in the hereafter except a little? 39 Except you stampede he will torture you with a painful torture and substitute a people other than you and you will not harm him at all and Allah is mighty over everything. 40 Except you help him. And Allah helped him when those who had disbelieved expelled him the second of two when they two are in the cave when he says to his companion: Do not grieve. Allah is with us. And Allah sent down his shekhinah upon him and supported him with troops you did not see and made the word of those who had disbelieved the lowest and the word of Allah, it is the highest. And Allah is mighty, wise. 41 Stampede, light and heavy, and wage jihad with your monies and your souls in the way of Allah. That is better for you if you know. 42 Had it been a near gain and a moderate journey they would have followed you but the distance was far for them. And they will swear by Allah: Had we been able we would have gone out with you. They destroy themselves and Allah knows that they are lying. 43 Allah pardon you! Why did you permit them until it becomes clear to you those who told the truth and you know the lying? 44 Those who believe in Allah and the last day do not ask you for permission to wage jihad with their monies and their souls. And Allah is learned in the fearers. 45 Only those who do not believe in Allah and the last day ask you for permission and their hearts have doubted so they hesitate in their doubt. 46 And had they wanted to go out they would have prepared a preparation for it. But Allah disliked their issuing so he made them lag behind and it was said: Sit with those sitting. 47 Had they gone out among you they would not have increased you except in craziness and they would have suffered losses in your midst seeking fitnah for you. And among you those who listen to them. And Allah is learned in the wrongdoers. 48 They sought fitnah before and flipped the matters for you until the truth came and Allah’s command appeared while they were disliking. 49 And among them is he who says: Give me permission and do not tempt me. Indeed, they have fallen into fitnah. And Jahannam is surrounding the kafirun. 50 If good strikes you, it distresses them and if a calamity strikes you, they say: We took our affair before. And they turn away while they are rejoicing. 51 Say: Nothing will strike us except what Allah has written for us; he is our mawla. And in Allah let the believers put their trust. 52 Say: Do you lie in wait for us except one of the two fine things while we lie in wait for you that Allah may strike you with torture from him or by our hands? So lie in wait. We are lying in wait with you. 53 Say: Spend willingly or unwillingly. It will not be accepted from you. You are a fasiq people. 54 And nothing prevented them that their expenses be accepted from them except that they disbelieved in Allah and in his messenger and they do not come to the salat except while they are lazy and they do not spend except while they are unwilling. 55 So do not let their monies or their children astound you. Allah only wants to torture them therewith in the dunya life and for their souls to perish while they are kafirun. 56 And they swear by Allah that they are of you and they are not of you but they are a people who are afraid. 57 If they find a refuge or caves or a place to enter they would have turned to it and they are excited. 58 And among them is he who criticises you concerning the charities. Then if they are given from them they are pleased. But if they are not given from them then they resent. 59 And had they been pleased with what Allah and his messenger had given them and said: Our sufficiency is Allah. Allah will give us from his favour, and his messenger. We are seekers to Allah. 60 The charities are only for the poor and the needy and those working for them and those whose hearts are united and for the necks and the debtors and for the way of Allah and the traveller--an obligation from Allah. And Allah is learned, wise. 61 And among them are those who harm the prophet and say: He is an ear. Say: An ear of good for you. He believes in Allah and believes the believers and is a mercy to those who have believed among you. And those who harm Allah’s messenger, theirs is painful torture. 62 They swear by Allah to you to please you. And Allah and his messenger have more right that they should please him if they are believers. 63 Have they not known that he who opposes Allah and his messenger, that his is the fire of Jahannam, abiding therein indefinitely? That is the great disgrace. 64 The hypocrites forewarn lest a surah be sent down upon them informing them of what is in their hearts. Say: Mock. Allah is bringing out what you forewarn. 65 And if you asked them they would say: We were only wading and playing. Say: Is it Allah and his verses and his messenger you were mocking? 66 Do not excuse yourselves. You have disbelieved after your faith. If we pardon a faction of you we torture a faction because they were criminals. 67 The male hypocrites and the female hypocrites, of one another. They command baseness and forbid kindness and hold their hands. They have forgotten Allah so he has forgotten them. The hypocrites are the fasiqun. 68 Allah has promised the male hypocrites and the female hypocrites and the kuffar the fire of Jahannam, abiding therein indefinitely. It is their reckoning. And Allah has cursed them and theirs is lasting torture. 69 Like those before you, they were stronger than you in strength and more in monies and children. So they enjoyed their share and you have enjoyed your share as those before you enjoyed their share and you have waded like the one who has waded. Those--their deeds have been made worthless in the dunya and the hereafter. And those are the losers. 70 Has the news of those before them not come to them, Nuh’s people and Ad’s and Thamud’s and Ibrahim’s people and the companions of Madyan and the mu’tafikat? Their messengers came to them with the proofs. And Allah would not wrong them but they were wronging themselves. 71 And the believing men and the believing women, protectors of one another. They command kindness and forbid baseness and perform the salat and give the zakat and obey Allah and his messenger. Those, Allah will have mercy on them. Allah is mighty, wise. 72 Allah has promised the believing men and the believing women jannat, rivers running beneath them, abiding therein indefinitely, and good domiciles in jannat of ‘Adn. And pleasure from Allah is bigger. That--it is the great win. 73 Prophet, wage jihad on the kuffar and the hypocrites and be harsh with them. And their shelter is Jahannam and miserable was the destiny. 74 They swear by Allah they did not say and they said the word of kufr and disbelieved after their Islam and disquietened what they did not get. And they did not take vengeance except that Allah and his messenger had enriched them from his favour. So if they repent, it will be better for them and if they turn away, Allah will torture them with a painful torture in the dunya and the hereafter. And they have no protector or helper in the land. 75 And among them is he who has covenanted with Allah: If he gives us from his favour we will give charity and be of the righteous. 76 But when he gave them from his favour they were stingy with it and turned away while they were averse. 77 So he followed them with hypocrisy in their hearts to a day they meet him because they broke Allah what they had promised him and because they used to lie. 78 Did they not know that Allah knows their secret and their private conversation and that Allah is the knower of the ghuyub? 79 Those who criticise the willing of the believers concerning the charities and those who do not find except their effort, so they ridicule them. Allah has ridiculed them and theirs is painful torture. 80 Ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them. If you ask forgiveness for them 70 times, Allah will not forgive them. That is because they disbelieved in Allah and his messenger and Allah does not guide the fasiq people. 81 Those remaining behind rejoiced in their seat, going against Allah’s messenger, and they disliked waging jihad with their monies and their souls in the way of Allah and they said: Do not stampede in the heat. Say: The fire of Jahannam is severer in heat. Had they comprehended. 82 Let them laugh a little and let them weep much as recompense for what they used to earn. 83 Then if Allah returns you to a band of them and they ask you for permission to go out, say: You will never go out with me and you will not fight an enemy with me. You were pleased with sitting the first time so sit with those staying behind. 84 And never pray for any of them who has died nor stand at his grave. They disbelieved in Allah and his messenger and died while they were fasiqun. 85 And do not let their monies and their children astound you. Allah only wants to torture them therewith in the dunya and their souls to perish while they are kafirun. 86 And when a surah has been sent down: Believe in Allah and wage jihad with his messenger, the possessors of merit among them have asked you for permission and said: Leave us to be with those sitting. 87 They were pleased to be with those remaining behind and their hearts were sealed so they do not comprehend. 88 But the messenger and those who believed with him waged jihad with their monies and their souls. And those, theirs are the good things and those, they are the successful. 89 Allah has prepared for them jannat, rivers running beneath them, abiding therein indefinitely. That is the great win. 90 And those excusing themselves of the Bedouins came that permission might be given to them and sat, those who lied to Allah and his messenger. He will strike those who have disbelieved among them with painful torture. 91 There is no difficulty on the weak or on the sick or on those who do not find what they spend if they have given sincere advice to Lah and his messenger. There is no way upon the good-doers. And Allah is a forgiver, merciful. 92 Or on those who. when they have come to you that you might carry them, you said: I do not find what to carry you on. They have turned away and their eyes overflow with tears, sadness not to find what they spend. 93 The way is only on those who ask you for permission while they are rich. They were pleased to be with those remaining behind and Allah has sealed their hearts so they do not know. 94 They excuse themselves to you when you have returned to them. Say: Do not excuse yourselves. We shall not believe you. Allah has informed us of your news and Allah will see your deed, and his messenger. Then you are returned to the knower of the ghayb and the testimony then he informs you of what you used to do. 95 They will swear by Allah to you when you have veered to them that you may turn away from them. So turn away from them. They are rijs and their shelter is Jahannam, a recompense for what they used to earn. 96 They swear to you that you may be pleased with them. But if you are pleased with them then Allah is not pleased with the fasiq people. 97 The Bedouins are severer in kufr and hypocrisy and worthier not to know hudud of what Allah has sent down upon his messenger. And Allah is learned, wise. 98 And among the Bedouins is he who takes what he spends as a loss and he lies in wait for you, misfortunes. Upon them are the misfortunes of evil. And Allah is a hearer, learned. 99 And among the Bedouins is he who believes in Allah and the last day and takes what he spends as kinship with Allah and the messenger’s prayers. Indeed, it is kinship for them. Allah will admit them into his mercy. Allah is a forgiver, merciful. 100 And the first preceding of the emigrants and the Ansar and those who followed them in doing well, Allah was pleased with them and they were pleased with him. And he has prepared for them jannat, rivers running beneath them, abiding therein forever. That is the great win. 101 And among those around you of the Bedouins are hypocrites and of the people of Al-Madinah. They have been constant in hypocrisy, you do not know them; we know them. We shall torture them twice then they will be returned to a great torture. 102 And others have acknowledged their sins. They had mixed a righteous deed and another, evil. Perhaps Allah will repent for them. Allah is a forgiver, merciful. 103 Take from their monies a charity, purifying them and increasing them therewith and pray for them. Your prayer is a rest for them. And Allah is a hearer, learned. 104 Have they not known that Allah, he accepts repentance from his slaves and takes the charities and that Allah, he is the repenter, the merciful? 105 And say: Do, then Allah will see your deed, and his messenger and the believers. And you will be returned to the knower of the ghayb and the testimony then he will inform you of what you used to do. 106 And others deferred for Allah’s command, whether he will torture them and whether he will repent for them. And Allah is learned, wise. 107 And those who have taken a mosque for harm and kufr and separation among the believers and as a station for him who has warred against Allah and his messenger before. And they shall swear: We have wanted nothing but goodness. And Allah bears witness: They are lying. 108 Never stand in it. A mosque that has been founded upon taqwa from the first day is worthier that you stand in it. In it are men who love to purify themselves and Allah loves those purifying themselves. 109 Is then he who has founded his building upon taqwa from Allah and pleasure better or he who has founded his building upon a collapsing bluff edge so it has collapsed with him in the fire of Jahannam? And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. 110 Their building which they have built is still suspicion in their hearts except that their hearts cut off. And Allah is learned, wise. 111 Allah has bought from the believers their souls and their monies because theirs is the Jannah. They fight in the way of Allah. They kill and are killed. A promise upon him, a law, in the Torah and the Injil and the Quran. And who is more faithful to his covenant than Allah? So rejoice in your sale which you have contracted. And that, it is the great win. 112 The repentant, the worshipping, the praising, the exiting, the bowing, those doing sujud, those commanding kindness and those forbidding baseness and those keeping Allah’s hudud. And give good news to the believers. 113 It was not for the prophet and those who have believed to ask for forgiveness for the mushrikun even though they be relatives after what has become clear to them that they are companions of the jahim. 114 And there was no asking for forgiveness by Ibrahim for his father except that he had made a promise to him. But when it became clear to him that he was an enemy to Lah, he disowned him. Ibrahim is ah, clement. 115 And Allah would not misguide a people after he had guided them until he makes clear to them what they fear. Allah is learned in everything. 116 Allah, his is the dominion of the skies and the Earth. He vivifies and causes to die. And you have no protector or helper instead of Allah. 117 Allah has repented for the prophet and the emigrants and the Ansar, those who have followed him, in the hour of distress after the hearts of a party had almost deviated from them then he repented for them. He is kind, merciful to them. 118 And for the three of those who had been left until when the land was straitened for them although it was wide. And their souls were straitened for them and they thought that there was no refuge from Allah except to him. Then he repented for them that they might repent. Allah, he is the repenter, the merciful. 119 Those who have believed, fear Allah and be with the truthful. 120 It was not for the people of Al-Madinah and those around them of the Bedouins to stay behind Allah’s messenger nor to desire their souls over his soul. That is because they, thirst does not hit them nor exhaustion nor extreme hunger in the way of Allah nor do they step a step that enrages the kuffar nor do they get an attainment from an enemy except it has been written for them in it, a righteous deed. Allah does not waste the wage of the good-doers. 121 Nor do they spend a small spending nor a big nor do they cross a valley except it has been written for them that Allah might recompense them the best of what they used to do. 122 And the believers would not stampede altogether. So had a band not stampeded from every division of them to become legal scholars in the religion and to warn their people when they returned to them--perhaps they will watch out. 123 Those who have believed, fight those who are close to you of the kuffar and let them find harshness in you. And know that Allah is with the fearers. 124 And whenever a surah has been sent down, among them is he who says: Which of you has this increased in faith? So as for those who have believed, it has increased them in faith and they rejoice. 125 And as for those in whose hearts is disease, it has increased them in rijs to rijs. And they have died while they were kafirun. 126 Have they not seen that they are tried in every year once or twice? Then they do not repent nor do they take heed. 127 And in case a surah has been sent down they have looked at one another: Does anyone see you? Then they have gone away. Allah has turned their hearts away because they are a people that do not understand. 128 A messenger has come to you from yourselves. Dear to him is what you have suffered. Greedy upon you. To the believers is he kind, merciful. 129 And if they turn away, say: Allah is my sufficiency. There is no god but him. In him have I put my trust. And he is the lord of the great throne.
