A Very Short Note on 'Banu Isra'il'

The Quran a number of times speaks of the Banu Isra'il. A number of translators render it as 'Children of Israel'. The Hebrew Bible calls them bney Yisrael, sons of Israel. But if we read the Sirah, Ibn Hisham's biography of the founder of Islam, we read of a number of tribes called Banu such-and-such. So in Arabic it was customary for tribes to have the word Banu before the name. With such a custom in mind, did the 7th Century audience think that an Israelite tribe was to be understood? It is true that the Arabic Bible uses this same expression, but the standard translation comes well after the 7th Century. Even if this term were known in the 7th Century might it be that the Jews used banu in imitation of the Hebrew word bney? And from them or from a Syriac translation to the Christians?
