In this short post we shall be looking at something curious.

S 52:17-18 The fearers are in jannat and bliss, / Joking with what their lord has given them and their lord has protected them from the torture of jahim.

The Jalalayn for verse 18 have:

rejoicing delighting in what bi-mā relates to the verbal action their Lord has given them and that their Lord has shielded them from the chastisement of Hell-fire wa-waqāhum rabbuhum ‘adhāba’l-jahīmi is a supplement to ātāhum ‘what He has given them’ in other words rejoicing in their having been given this reward and shielded from Hell-fire. https://www.altafsir.com/Tafasir.asp?tMadhNo=0&tTafsirNo=74&tSoraNo=52&tAyahNo=18&tDisplay=yes&UserProfile=0&LanguageId=2

while the Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs has:

(Happy because of what your Lord hath given them) in the Garden, (and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hellfire). https://www.altafsir.com/Tafasir.asp?tMadhNo=0&tTafsirNo=73&tSoraNo=52&tAyahNo=18&tDisplay=yes&UserProfile=0&LanguageId=2

Does/Did Allah protect the denizens of 'Paradise' from damnation? Is/was there a risk of their being damned even though they're in bliss? Does hell actually belong to some other deity that might damn the denizens of 'Paradise'?
