S 72:3 And that he, exalted be our lord’s good luck, has not taken a girlfriend or a child.

The Arabic of which is: وَأَنَّهُ تَعَالَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا اتَّخَذَ صَاحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَدًا

We might translate this in a number of ways.

1 As above.

2 And that, he, Ta'ala, is the grandfather of our lord. He has not taken a girlfriend or a child.

3 And that he, exalted be our lord's grandfather, has not taken a girlfriend or a child.

Definitions for jadd from Almaany:

جَدّ

- A parent of one's father

جَدّ

- A parent of one's father - forefather; primogenitor; progenitor; ancestor; forebear; grandfather

جَدّ

- ascendant

جَدّ

From Wiktionary:

Noun[edit]

جَدّ (jadd) m (plural جُدُود (judūd))

However, we read in Lane's Lexicon:

Root: جد - Entry: 1.=Dissociation: D

جَدّ فِى عَيْنِى, (Ṣ, A,) or فِى عُيُونِ النَّاسِ, and صُدُورِهِمْ, (Mgh,) aor. ـِ {يَجْدِدُ}, inf. n. جَدٌّ, (Ṣ,) He was, or became, great, or of great dignity or estimation, in my eye, or in the eyes of men, and their minds. (Ṣ, A, Mgh.) It is said in a trad. of Anas, كَانَ الرَّجُلُ مِنَّا إِذَا قَرَأَ البَقَرَةَ وَآلَ عِمْرَانَ جَدَّ فِينَا, i. e., [A man of us, when he recited the chapter of the Cow and that of the Family of ʼImrán (the second and third chapters of the Ḳur-án),] used to be great in our eyes. (Ṣ.)

So a fourth translation could be:

And that he, exalted be our lord's dignity, has not taken a girlfriend or a child.
