How Many Sons Did Ibrahim Have?

Chronological order.

S 38:45  (38th) And mention our slaves Ibrahim and Ishaq and Ya’qub, the possessors of hands and eyesight.

This passage speaks of Ishaq and Ya'qov. Are they supposed to be Ibrahim's sons? But where's Isma'il?

They had hands and eyesight?

S 19:49 (44th) So when he walked away from them and what they worship instead of Allah we gave him Ishaq and Ya’qub and each did we make a prophet.

Again no Isma'il.

S 12:38  (53rd) And I have followed the cult of my fathers, Ibrahim and Ishaq and Ya’qub. It was not for us to associate anything with Allah. That is of Allah’s favour upon us and upon people but most people are not grateful.

Father, son and grandson. But there's no sign of Isma'il.

S 6:84  (55th) And we gave him Ishaq and Ya’qub, all did we guide. And Nuh did we guide before and of his offspring Dawud and Sulayman and Ayyub and Yusuf and Musa and Harun. And thus do we reward the good-doers.

Where's Isma'il?

S 21:72  (73rd) And we gave him Ishaq and Ya’qub as a redundancy and all did we make righteous.

Ya'qub was a redundancy? Again no Isma'il.

S 29:27  (85th) And we gave him Ishaq and Ya’qub and we put in his offspring the prophethood and the Book. And we gave him his wage in the dunya. And he in the hereafter is of the righteous.

The previous verse mentions Lut. Lut was given Ishaq and Ya'qub? Where is Isma'il?

S 2:136 (87th) Say: We have believed in Allah and what has been sent down to us and what was sent down to Ibrahim and Isma’il and Ishaq and Ya’qub and the tribes and what was given to Musa and Isa and what was given to the prophets from their lord. We do not distinguish between any of them. And we are Muslims to him.

Isma'il now turns up.

Is what was sent down to us and what was sent down to Ibrahim, Isma'il, Ishaq and the tribes different? Is it different from what was given to Musa and Isa? If they were prophets, why does it say 'What was given to the prophets'?

S 2:140  Or do you say: Ibrahim and Isma’il and Ishaq and Ya’qub and the tribes were Jews or Nasara? Say: Are you a knower or is Allah? And who is more unjust than he who has concealed a testimony he has from Allah? And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

S 3:84  (89th) Say: We have believed in Allah and what was sent down upon us and what was sent down upon Ibrahim and Isma’il and Ishaq and Ya’qub and the tribes and what was given to Musa and Isa and the prophets from their lord. We do not distinguish between any of them and we are Muslims to him.

See notes above.

S 4:163 (92nd) We have inspired you as we inspired Nuh and the prophets after him and we inspired Ibrahim and Isma’il and Ishaq and Ya’qub and the tribes and Isa and Ayyub and Yunus and Harun and Sulayman and we gave Dawud a Zabur.

Was Nuh not a prophet? Was he not inspired? Whole tribes were? Were the others listed prophets?

Were his sons Ishaq and Ya'qub? Was Ya'qub his grandson? Were Isma'il, Ishaq and Ya'qub his sons? It is not until S 2, the 87th, that Isma'il turns up. Six surahs without him, three with. Is this because until then Allah's boss had been currying favour with the Jews? Then when they rejected him, he introduced Isma'il?
