S 18:22  They will say: Three, the fourth of them their dog; and they say: Five, the sixth of them their dog. A conjecture about the ghayb. And they say: Seven, and the eighth of them their dog. Say: My lord knows their ‘iddah. None knows them but a few. So do not argue about them except with a clear argument. And do not enquire about them from anyone among them.

S 18:26 Say: Allah knows by what they remained. His is the ghayb of the skies and the Earth. See it and hear! They have no protector instead of him nor does he associate someone in his judgment.

The number of youths in the cave is unknown and of the ghayb. But some know the number. Allah, the author tells us, knows how long they were in the cave. If this too is of the ghayb, the author tells us how long in verse 25.

And they remained in their cave for 300 years and they increased it by nine.

309 years.

Narrated `Abdullah:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "The key of the Unseen are five: Verily with Allah (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour He sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. No soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in what land it will die. Verily, Allah is All-Knower, All-Aware." (31.34)

There is a doubt regarding Allah's knowledge of the Hour. See: Perhaps the Hour is Near Who knows what, i.e. the sex of the unborn child, is in the womb? Doctors by means of ultrasound. Who knows in what land he will die? He who would never travel abroad, the one in a hospice, etc.
