"But after a few days Waraqa died and the Divine Inspiration was also paused for a while and the Prophet (ﷺ) became so sad as we have heard that he intended several times to throw himself from the tops of high mountains and every time he went up the top of a mountain in order to throw himself down, Gabriel would appear before him and say, "O Muhammad! You are indeed Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in truth" whereupon his heart would become quiet and he would calm down and would return home. And whenever the period of the coming of the inspiration used to become long, he would do as before, but when he used to reach the top of a mountain, Gabriel would appear before him and say to him what he had said before."
Some Muslims will object to this part of the hadith but are happy with the story of their master's being assaulted in the cave.
Is suicide forbidden in the Quran?
S 2:54 And when Musa said to his people: People, you have wronged yourselves in your taking the calf. So repent to your bari’ and kill yourselves. That is better for you with your bari’. Then he repented for you. He is the repenter, the merciful.
It's no good going to the 'corrupted' Bible as a criterion for understanding the 'clear' and 'detailed' verse.
In S 22:15 we read: He who was thinking that Allah will not help him in the dunya and the hereafter, let him extend a cable to the sky then let him cut off, let him look whether his stratagem shall remove what acerbates.
The Jalalayn on this verse say:
Whoever supposes that God will not help him namely Muhammad (s) His Prophet in this world and the Hereafter let him extend a rope to the ceiling to the roof of his house fixing it there and tying it to his neck and let him hang himself that is let him choke to death because of it by severing his soul from any existence on the earth as reported in the various Sahīh compilations. Then let him see whether his strategy against the Prophet being helped dispels that which enrages him about it. In other words let him choke to death with rage because of it for it is inevitable. https://www.altafsir.com/Tafasir.asp?tMadhNo=0&tTafsirNo=74&tSoraNo=22&tAyahNo=15&tDisplay=yes&UserProfile=0&LanguageId=2
And in Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs:
(Whoso is wont to think that Allah will not give him) i.e. Muhammad (pbuh) (victory in the world and the Hereafter) through reason and proof, (let him stretch a rope up to the roof (of his dwelling), and let him hang himself. Then let him see) let him reflect upon (whether his strategy) hanging himself (dispelleth that whereat he rageth!) i.e. regarding Muhammad (pbuh). It is also said that there is another way of understanding this passage: whoever thinks that Allah will not help him in this worldly life with sustenance and in the Hereafter with reward, then let him tie a rope to the roof of his house, hang himself with it and see whether killing himself will dispel his rage regarding sustenance. https://www.altafsir.com/Tafasir.asp?tMadhNo=0&tTafsirNo=73&tSoraNo=22&tAyahNo=15&tDisplay=yes&UserProfile=0&LanguageId=2
