S 6:38 And there is no beast on the Earth nor bird that flies with its two wings but are nations the likes of you. We have neglected nothing in the book. Then to their lord are they gathered.
So a bird flies 'with its wings'.
S 16:79 Have they not looked at the bird subjected in the air of the sky? None holds them but Allah. In that there are signs for people who believe.
So Allah holds it up. It is "subjected" in the air. If it is subjected, it isn't there by choice. Other passages speaking of subjection:
S 7:54 we read: Your lord is Allah who created the skies and the Earth in six days then ascended the throne. He covers the night with the day seeking it quickly, and the sun and the moon and the stars--subjected by his command. Indeed, his is the creation and the command. Blessed be Allah, lord of the ‘alamin.
S 13:2 Allah is the one who raised the skies without columns that you see. Then he ascended the throne and subjected the sun and the moon, each running for a fixed term. He arranges the matter, he details the signs; perhaps you will be certain of the meeting of your lord.
S 14:33 And subjected to you the sun and the moon, assiduous, and subjected to you the night and the day.
S 16:12 And he has subjected for you the night and the day and the sun and the moon and the stars are subjected by his command. In that there are signs for people who comprehend.
S 29:61 And if you asked them who created the skies and the Earth and subjected the sun and the moon, they would say: Allah. So how are they deluded?
S 31:29 Have you not seen that Allah inserts the night into the day and inserts the day into the night and subjected the sun and the moon, all running for a designated term and that Allah is an expert in what you do?
S 35:13 He inserts the night into the day and inserts the day into the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running for a designated term. That is Allah, your lord. His is the dominion. And those you invoke instead of him do not possess a pellicle.
S 39:5 He created the skies and the Earth with truth. He rolls up the night upon the day and rolls up the day upon the night and subjected the sun and the moon, all running for a designated term. Indeed, he is the mighty, the forgiving.
The sun and the moon were subjected, we are told, to man. The bird is subjected in the air. To man? .Is the bird in the sky for man's benefit? Are the sun and moon, like the bird, animate beings?
In a hadith we read:
Narrated Abu Dhar:
The Prophet (ﷺ) asked me at sunset, "Do you know where the sun goes (at the time of sunset)?" I replied, "Allah and His Apostle know better." He said, "It goes (i.e. travels) till it prostrates Itself underneath the Throne and takes the permission to rise again, and it is permitted and then (a time will come when) it will be about to prostrate itself but its prostration will not be accepted, and it will ask permission to go on its course but it will not be permitted, but it will be ordered to return whence it has come and so it will rise in the west. And that is the interpretation of the Statement of Allah: "And the sun Runs its fixed course For a term (decreed). that is The Decree of (Allah) The Exalted in Might, The All- Knowing." (36.38)
The sun is an animate being that does sujud and asks for permission.
