Muslims will often say that the Quran speaks of the female bee, pointing to the word nahlah, which is of feminine grammatical gender. But the word for bee is of feminine grammatical gender in a number of languages. Even a male bee is a nahlah. They will also make an issue from the word used for bees nahl, of masculine or feminine grammatical gender, which is simply the collective noun for bees.

S 16:68 And your lord inspired the bees: Take houses from the mountains and from the trees and from what they build up.

Does Allah inspire bees? Are they prophets/prophetesses? ‘Take’ is ittakhidhi, 2nd person feminine singular (form VIII) imperative verb. So did it inspire all the bees, or just one?
