Have you ever been to the zoo and had to get out of the way fast when a monkey threw its excrement at you?
The Quran speaks of rijs. Wiktionary defines it thus:

رَجُسَ ( فعل ): - قَذِرَ

- Commit a shameful act
Now there's a chance that this is a garbled form of rijz, which may or may not be a (garbled) form of a Syriac word signifying 'wrath'.
S 5:90 Those who have believed, wine and maysir and ansab and divining arrows are only rijs from the Devil’s work, so avoid it; perhaps you will succeed.
S 6:125 Whomever Allah wants to guide, he expands his chest to Islam. And whomever he wants to misguide, he makes his chest tight and constricted as though he were climbing into the sky. Thus Allah puts rijs on those who do not believe.
S 6:145 Say: I do not find in what I have been inspired with something forbidden to a feeder who eats it except that it be a dead creature or blood shed or pork. And it is rijs or fisq that has been dedicated to other than Allah. And he who has been compelled not desiring nor returning then your lord is a forgiver, merciful.
Filth dedicated to other than Allah?
S 7:71 He said: Rijs and anger have fallen upon you from your lord. Do you argue with me concerning names that you have named, you and your fathers? Allah has not sent down any authority for them. So wait. I am with you of those waiting.
S 9:95 They will swear by Allah to you when you have veered to them that you may turn away from them. So turn away from them. They are rijs and their shelter is Jahannam, a recompense for what they used to earn.
S 9:125 And as for those in whose hearts is disease, it has increased them in rijs to rijs. And they have died while they were kafirun.
S 10:100 And it was not for a soul to believe except with Allah’s permission; and he puts rijs on those who do not comprehend.
S 22:30 That and he who magnifies the hurumat of Allah, it is better for him with his lord. And cattle have been made lawful for you except what is read to you. So avoid the rijs from the idols and avoid false speech.
S 33:33 And stay in your houses and do not dress up as the dressing up of the first jahiliyyah. And perform salat and give the zakat and obey Allah and his messenger. Allah only wants to remove rijs from you, household, and to purify you with purification.
Let's compare this with rijz passages.
S 2:59 But those who wronged changed speech other than that which was said to them. So we sent down upon those who wronged rijz from the sky because they were acting immorally.

S 29:34 We are bringing down upon the people of this village rijz from the sky because they were fasiq.
S 34:5 And those who have striven against our verses causing failure, those, theirs is torture of rijz, painful.
S 45:11 This is guidance. And those who have disbelieved in their lord’s verses have torture from painful rijz.
In S 74:5 a variant rujz is used.

Does Allah drop or throw filth down, or is it just wrath?
