The Quran speaks of gratitude--man's and Allah's.

S 2:158 Al-Safa and Al-Marwah are of the cult rituals of Allah. So he who has performed Hajj of the House or has performed Umrah, there is no misdemeanour upon him to walk in them. And he who has done good voluntarily then Allah is grateful, learned.

S 3:144 And Muhammad is nothing but a messenger. The messengers passed away before him. So if he dies or is killed, you turn back on your heels? And he who turns back on his heels will not harm Allah at all. And Allah will reward the grateful.

S 3:145 And it was not for a soul to die except with Allah’s permission, a scheduled book. And he who wants the recompense of the dunya, we give him thereof; and he who wants the recompense of the hereafter, we give him thereof. And we shall reward the grateful.

S 4:147 What is Allah doing by your torture if you have been grateful and believed? And Allah was grateful, learned.

S 6:53 And thus do we try some of them by others that they may say: Are these Allah has been benevolent to from among us? Is Allah not a knower of the grateful?

S 6:63 Say: Who saves you from the darknesses of the land and the sea? You invoke him in obtestation and surreptitiously. If he has saved us from this we shall be of the grateful.

S 7:17 Then I will come to them from in front of them and from behind them and from their right and from their left and you do not find most of them grateful.

S 7:144 He said: Musa, I have chosen you over people with my messages and with my words. So take what I have given you and be of the grateful.

Were Allah's messages different from its words?

S 7:189 He is the one who created you from one soul and made from it its husband that he might dwell to her. But when he covers her she carried a light load and passed with it. But when she added weight they two invoked Allah, their lord: If you give us a righteous one, we will be of the grateful.

S 10:22 He is the one who makes you roll round on the land and the sea until when you are on the ships and they run with them with a good wind and they rejoice therein, a stormy wind comes to them and the waves come to them from every place and they think that they are surrounded by them. They have invoked Allah sincerely towards him in religion: If you save us from this, we will be of the grateful.

Roll around on the land?

S 14:5 And we sent Musa with our signs: Bring your people out from the darknesses into the light. And remind them of the days of Allah. In that are signs for every patient, grateful man.

S 16:121 Grateful for his graces. He chose him and guided him to a straight path.

Who was grateful for whose graces? Ibrahim for Allah's or vice versa?

S 17:3 Offspring of one we carried with Nuh. He was a grateful slave.

Who was the offspring? Allah? Musa? Was the offspring or Nuh the grateful slave?

S 17:19 And he who wanted the hereafter and strove for it its striving while a believer, those, their striving was commendable. {mashkur}

S 21:80 And we taught him the making of a coat of mail for you to guard you from your horribleness. So are you grateful?

S 25:62 And he is the one who made the night and the day as a succession for him who wanted to remember or wanted to be grateful.

S 31:31 Have you not seen that the ships run in the sea by Allah’s grace that he may show you of his signs? In that there are signs for every patient, grateful man.

S 34:13 They make him what he wills of niches and statues and bowls and watering-troughs and fixed pots. Work, family of Dawud, in gratitude! But few of my slaves are the grateful.

Jinn and devils were part of Dawud's family?

S 34:19 But they said: Our lord, spread out between our journeys. And they wronged themselves so we made them ahadith and we totally tore them. In that there are signs for every patient, grateful man.

S 35:30 That he may give them their wages in full and increase them from his favour. He is a forgiver, grateful.

S 35:34 And they said: Praise be to Lah, the one who has removed the sadness from us. Our lord is a forgiver, grateful.

S 39:66 Rather, but worship Allah and be of the grateful.

S 42:23 That is that which Allah gives his slaves good news of. Those who have believed and have done the righteous deeds. Say: I do not ask you for a wage for it except affection among relatives. And he who does a good deed we increase for him therein good. Allah is a forgiver, grateful.

S 42:33 If he were willing he would settle the wind and they would remain motionless on its back. In that there are signs for every patient, grateful man.

They would remain motionless on the back of what? The sea? Does the sea have a back?

S 64:17 If you give Allah a good loan he doubles it for you and forgives you. And Allah is grateful, clement.

Allah is grateful for a loan? Why? Is it hard up?

S 76:3 We guided him to the way, whether grateful or ungrateful.

S 76:9 We only feed you for the face of Allah. We do not want repayment or thanks from you.

S 76:22 This was a recompense for you and your striving was commendable. {Mashkur}

Is it for God (which Allah supposedly is) to be grateful to man or for man to be grateful to God?
