Didn't You Know?

In this post we shall be looking at occurrences of the expression  أَلَمْ تَعْلَمْ, 'Didn't you (singular) know?'

S 2:106  What we abrogate from a verse or cause it to be forgotten we bring better than it or the like of it. Did you not know that Allah is mighty over everything?

S 2:107 Did you not know that Allah, his is the dominion of the skies and the Earth? And you have no protector or helper instead of Allah.

These two passages are in the 87th surah chronologically (approximately).

S 5:40 Did you not know that Allah--his is the dominion of the skies and the Earth? He tortures whom he wills and forgives whom he wills. And Allah is mighty over everything.

This is the 112th surah chronologically.

S 22:70  Did you not know that Allah knows what is in the sky and the Earth? That is in a book. That is easy for Allah.

This is the 103rd chronologically. Why is 'Allah' asking him (presumably its boss) whether he 'knew' so many surahs in?
