S 4:15 And those who commit fahishah of your women then call witnesses against them, four among you. And if they testify then detain them in the houses until death causes them to die or Allah makes a way for them.

S 4:16 And those two men who commit it among you, harm them. But if they repent and reform then turn away from them. Allah was repenting, merciful.

It would appear that lesbians were to be imprisoned for life whereas male homosexuals were to be 'harmed' in some way, but if they repented, dismissed. Perhaps Allah is only merciful towards male homosexuals.

Allusions to homosexuality among 'Lut's people' are to be found in the Quran.

S 7:80-82 And Lut when he said to his people: Do you come to fahishah that no-one of the ‘alamin has preceded you in? You come to men lustfully instead of women. Rather, you are a people who are extravagant. And his people’s answer was nothing but that they said: Expel them from your village. They are people who purify themselves.

We read in S 11:77-83 And when our messengers had come to Lut he was distressed on their account and was straitened on their account with unease and he said: This is a difficult day. And his people came to him rushing towards him and before they were doing the evil deeds. He said: People, these are my daughters. They are purer for you. So fear Allah and do not disgrace me concerning my guest. Is there not a reasonable man among you? They said: You knew we had no right concerning your daughters and you know what we want. He said: If only I had power over you or look for shelter at a strong corner. They said: Lut, we are your lord’s messengers. They will not reach towards you so travel at night with your family in a part of the night and do not let anyone of you look back except your woman. What has struck them is striking her. Their appointment is the morning. Is the morning not near? So when our command came we made its high its low and rained upon it stones of piled argil. Marked with your lord. And it is not far from the wrongdoers.

S 15:58-74 They said: We have been sent to a criminal people Except Lut’s family. We are saving them all Except his woman. We have determined that she be of the preceding. And when the commissaries came to Lut’s family. He said: You are a munkar people. They said: Rather, we have brought you what they were disputing about. And we have brought you the truth and we are truthful. So travel at night with your family in divisions of the night and follow their backsides and let none among you turn round after and pass where you are commanded. And we prescribed to him that matter that the origin of these would be cut off in the morning. And the people of the city came rejoicing. He said: These are my guest so do not expose me And fear Allah and do not disgrace me. They said: Did we not forbid you from the ‘alamin? He said: These are my daughters if you are doers. Your life, they are wandering in their intoxication! So the cry took them at sunrise. And we made its high its low and we rained upon them stones of argil.

S 26:165-173 Do you go with the males of the ‘alamin And leave what your lord created for you of your husbands? Rather, you are a transgressing people. They said: If you do not cease, Lut, you will be of the expelled. 168 He said: I am of the detesters of your deed. Lord, save me and my family from what they do! So we saved him and all his family. Except an old woman among those remaining. Then we destroyed the others. And we rained upon them a rain and evil was the rain of the warned.

S 27:54-58 And Lut when he said to his people: Do you commit fahishah while you see? Do you go with the men in lust instead of the women? Rather, you are ignorant people. But his people’s answer was nothing but that they said: Remove Lut’s family from your village. They are people who purify. So we saved him and his family except his woman. We determined that she be of the remaining. And we rained upon them a rain and evil was the rain of the warned.

S 29:28-34 And Lut when he said to his people: You commit fahishah that none has preceded you in of the ‘alamin. Do you go with the men and cut the way and commit enormity in your assembly? And his people’s answer was nothing but that they said: Bring us Allah’s torture if you are of the truthful. He said: Lord, help me against the corrupting people. And when our messengers came to Ibrahim with the good news they said: We are destroying the people of this village. Its people were wrongdoers. He said: Lut is in it. They said: We know who is in it. We shall save him and his family except his woman. She was of the previous ones. And when our messengers came to Lut he was troubled because of them and was frustrated because of them. And they said: Do not fear or gireve. We are saving you and your family except your woman. She was of the previous ones. We are bringing down upon the people of this village rijz from the sky because they were fasiq.

There were no homosexuals before his time?

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

"The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) cursed the women who imitate men and the men who imitate women."

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

"The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) cursed those men who behave effeminately and those women whose behavior is masculine."

Ibn ‘Abbas said:

The Prophet (May peace be upon him) cursed effeminate men (mukhannathan) and women who imitated men, saying: Put them out of your houses, and put so-and-so out. (that is to say, the effeminate men)

Narrated 'Ubaid-Ullah bin Adi bin Khiyar:

I went to 'Uthman bin Affan while he was besieged, and said to him, "You are the chief of all Muslims in general and you see what has befallen you. We are led in the Salat (prayer) by a leader of Al-Fitan (trials and afflictions etc.) and we are afraid of being sinful in following him." 'Uthman said. "As-Salat (the prayers) is the best of all deeds so when the people do good deeds do the same with them and when they do bad deeds, avoid those bad deeds." Az-Zuhri said, "In our opinion one should not offer Salat behind an effeminate person unless there is no alternative."

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) cursed a man who puts on the dress of women, and a woman who puts on the dress of men.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said:

"Usamah stumbled at the threshold of the door and cut his face. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Remove the harm (the blood) from him,' but I was repulsed by that. He started to suck the blood and remove it from his face, then he said: 'If Usamah were a girl, I would have adorned him and dressed him until I married him off."'

Narrated Usayd ibn Hudayr,:

AbdurRahman ibn AbuLayla, quoting Usayd ibn Hudayr, a man of the Ansar, said that while he was given to jesting and was talking to the people and making them laugh, the Prophet (ﷺ) poked him under the ribs with a stick. He said: Let me take retaliation. He said: Take retaliation. He said: You are wearing a shirt but I am not. The Prophet (ﷺ) then raised his shirt and the man embraced him and began to kiss his side. Then he said: This is what I wanted, Messenger of Allah!
