Is Allah a Fig?

'Allah' swears by various things in quran and even by me. Muslims, if asked, will say that when it swears by the fig it is not swearing by itself. But what about this?


S 70:40 And I do not swear by the lord of the rising places and the setting places; we are able


It should be borne in mind that when 'Allah' denies swearing by such-and-such, it supposedly actually does swear by that thing. The negative لا la arose from a faulty text or a misreading of ل la-, a particle of asseveration.


If Allah is not swearing by itself when it swears by the fig, surely to be consistent Allah should not be swearing by itself when it swears by the lord of the rising and setting places. Allah would then be swearing by some other lord.
