In this post we shall be looking at magic and magicians.
S 2:102 And they followed what the devils read over the dominion of Sulayman. And Sulayman did not disbelieve but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and what was sent down to the two angels in Babylon, Harut and Marut. And they do not teach anyone until they say: We are only fitnah, so do not disbelieve. But they learn from them what separates therewith man from his husband. And they do not harm therewith anyone but with Allah’s permission. And they learn what harms them and it does not profit them. And they knew whoever buys it, has no share in the hereafter. And miserable is what they sold themselves therewith, had they known.
S 5:110 When Allah said: Isa son of Maryam, remember my grace upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Holy Spirit when you speak to the people in the cradle and in middle age. And when I taught you the book and the wisdom and the Torah and the Injil. And when you create from the clay as the form of the bird with my permission and blow into it and it is a bird with my permission and you heal the blind man and the leper with my permission and when you bring out the dead with my permission. And when I restrained the Banu Isra’il from you when you brought them proofs and those who disbelieved of them said: This is nothing but obvious magic.
S 6:7 And had we sent down upon you a book in qirtas and they had touched it with their hands, those who have disbelieved would have said: This is nothing but obvious magic.
The Jalalayn say:
And had We revealed to you a Scripture inscribed on parchment as they requested and had they then touched it with their hands — this is more powerful than saying ‘had they seen it with their eyes’ since it touch is more effective in eliminating doubt; the disbelievers would have said in disobedience and obduracy ‘This is nothing but manifest sorcery’.
Quran is on paper today. Do disbelievers think that it is magic?
S 10:76 So when the truth came to them from us they said: This is obvious magic.
S 10:77 Musa said: Do you say of the truth when it has come to you: Is this magic?? But the magicians do not succeed.
S 10:81 Then when they had thrown Musa said: What you have brought is magic. Allah will cancel it. Allah does not reform the work of the corrupters.
S 11:7 And he is the one who created the skies and the Earth in six days. And his throne was on the water to test you, which of you is best in deed. But if you say: You are raised after death, those who have disbelieved will say: This is nothing but obvious magic.
S 20:57 He said: Have you come to us to expel us from our land with your magic, Musa?
S 20:58 Then we will bring you magic the like of it. So make an appointment between us and you. We will not renege on it, we or you, a level place.
S 20:63 They said: These are two magicians who want to expel you from your land with their magic and cause your exemplary way to disappear.
S 20:66 He said: Rather, throw. And behold, their ropes and their staves he imagined by their magic that they chased.
S 20:71 He said: You have believed him before I give you permission. He is your chief, who taught you magic. So I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides and crucify you on the trunks of date palms and you shall know which of us is severer in torture and more lasting.
S 20:73 We have believed in our lord that he may forgive us our sins and what you have forced on us by magic. And Allah is best and more lasting.
Allah is more lasting?
S 21:3 Their hearts having fun. And those who have wronged have kept the confidential talk secret. Is this but a human being the like of you? So would you come to magic when you see?
S 26:35 He wants to expel you from your land with his magic, so what do you command?
S 26:37 They will bring you every learned magician.
S 26:38 So the magicians were gathered for an appointment of a known day.
S 26:40 Perhaps we shall follow the magicians if they are the winners.
S 26:41 So when the magicians came they said to Fir’awn: Is there a wage for us if we are the winners?
S 26:46 Then the magicians were thrown doing sujud.
S 26:49 He said: You have believed in him before I permit you. He is your big one who has taught you magic so you will know I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides and I will crucify you all.
S 27:13 But when our signs came to them, visible, they said: This is obvious magic.
S 28:36 But when Musa came to them with our clear signs they said: This is nothing but fabricated magic and we have not heard of this among our first fathers.
S 28:48 But when the truth came to them from us they said: Why has he not been given the like of what Musa was given? Did they not disbelieve in what Musa was given before? They said: Two magics attesting. And they said: We are kafirun in all.
S 34:43 And when our clear verses are read to them they have said: This is nothing but a man who wants to block you from what your fathers used to worship. And they have said: This is nothing but a fabricated untruth. And those who have disbelieved in regard to the truth when it has come to them have said: This is nothing but obvious magic.
S 37:15 And they have said: This is nothing but obvious magic.
S 43:30 And when the truth came to them they said: This is magic and we are kafirun in it.
S 43:49 And they said: Magician, invoke your lord for us by what he has covenanted with you. We are guided.
S 46:7 And when our clear verses are read to them, those who have disbelieved the truth said when it came to them: This is obvious magic.
Why might disbelievers think that quran is magic?
S 52:15 So is this magic or do you not see?
S 61:6 And when Isa son of Maryam said: Banu Isra’il, I am Allah’s messenger to you, confirming what is in front of me of the Torah and as one giving the good news of a messenger coming after me whose name is Ahmad. But when he came to them with the proofs they said: This is obvious magic.
S 74:24 Then he said: This is nothing but magic that he transmits.
