The Quran calls him Yunus whereas the Arabic Bible calls him Yunan. The name Yunus is given to S 10.
S 4:163 We have inspired you as we inspired Nuh and the prophets after him and we inspired Ibrahim and Isma’il and Ishaq and Ya’qub and the tribes and Isa and Ayyub and Yunus and Harun and Sulayman and we gave Dawud a Zabur.
S 6:86 And Isma’il and Alyasa and Yunus and Lut and all did we prefer to the ‘alamin.
Well, all of these were of the 'alam, the world.
S 10:98 So why has there not been a village that believed and its faith benefited it except Yunus’ people? When they believed we removed the torture of disgrace from them in the dunya life and amused them for a time.
It will be remembered that Jonah was sent to the Ninevites, who were not his people.
S 37:139-148 And Yunus is of the commissaries. /When he fled to the laden ship. /Then he drew and was of the confounded. /Then the whale gobbled him while he was blamable. /And had he not been of the praisers /He would have stayed in its belly to a day they are raised. /But we threw him outdoors while he was sick. /And we caused a tree of a gourd to grow over him. /And we sent him to 100,000 or increasing. /And they believed and we amused them for a time.
He is of the commissaries? He would have stayed in its belly till resurrection day? Might this whale be still alive? And to exactly how many was he sent? Allah amused them? What is it, a clown?
A name given to him is Dhul Nun, which might be translated 'The One of the Fish'.
S 21:87-88 And Dhul Nun when he went angry and thought that we would not have power over him. Then he invoked in the darknesses: There is no god but you. Praise be to you! I was of the wrongdoers. /So we responded to him and saved him from the chagrin. And thus do we save the believers.
