The Rights and Wrongs of Standing to Drink

Allah's boss liked to forbid certain things, and would proceed to do those things.

Anas said the Prophet forbade that a man should drink standing. Muslim transmitted it.

It was narrated from Maisarah:

I saw ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) drinking whilst standing and I said: Do you drink whilst standing? He said: if I drink whilst standing, i saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) drink whilst standing, and if I drink whilst sitting, I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) drink whilst sitting.

What should you do if you do drink while standing?

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:

None of you should drink while standing; and if anyone forgets, he must vomit.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said:

"I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) drink standing and sitting, and he prayed barefoot and with sandals, and he left (after prayer) to the right and to the left."

He 'prayed' in his shoes? Hmm

Allah's boss called for wearing shoes during 'prayer'.

Narrated Aws ibn Thabit al-Ansari:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Act differently from the Jews, for they do not pray in their sandals or their shoes.
