Who Is Doing the Striking?

In this short post we shall be taking a look at S 8:12.


When your lord inspires the angels: I am with you so make those who have believed firm. I shall throw terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved. So strike above the necks and strike from them every distal phalanx.


The verse is taken to mean that those striking necks and fingertips are the Muslims. But the 'strike' clause suggests that the angels who have been 'inspired' are to do the striking.
