S 37:107 And we ransomed him with a great sacrifice.

In this verse 'we' ransomed some unnamed person with a great sacrifice.

Why did 'we', supposedly Allah, offer a sacrifice and to whom or what was it made and how was it 'great'?

The Jalalayn say:

Then We ransomed him the one whom he had been commanded to sacrifice namely Ishmael or Isaac — two different opinions — with a mighty sacrifice a mighty ram from Paradise the same one that Abel had offered as as sacrifice Gabriel peace be upon him brought it and the lord Abraham sacrificed it as he cried Allāhu akbar ‘God is Great’. https://www.altafsir.com/Tafasir.asp?tMadhNo=0&tTafsirNo=74&tSoraNo=37&tAyahNo=107&tDisplay=yes&UserProfile=0&LanguageId=2

The Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs states:

In Ibn Kathir we read:

(And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice). It was reported that Ibn `Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said, "A ram which had grazed in Paradise for forty years.'' https://quranx.com/Tafsir/Kathir/37.99
