S 2:219 They ask you about wine and maysir. Say: In them is a big offence and benefits for people. And their offence is bigger than their benefit. And they ask you what they spend. Say: The pardon. Thus Allah clarifies the verses for you; perhaps you will ponder.
S 4:43 Those who have believed, do not approach salat when you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying nor junub except passing a way until you have washed. And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you has come from faeces or has touched women and have not found water then do tayammum with good highland, then wipe your faces and your hands. Allah was pardoning, a forgiver.
S 5:90 Those who have believed, wine and maysir and ansab and divining arrows are only rijs from the Devil’s work, so avoid it; perhaps you will succeed.
S 16:67 And from the fruits of the date palm and grapes you take therefrom an intoxicant and a good provision. In that there is a sign for people who comprehend.
Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab: When the prohibition of wine (was yet to be) declared, Umar said: O Allah, give us a satisfactory explanation about wine. So the following verse of Surat al-Baqarah revealed; "They ask thee concerning wine and gambling. Say: In them is great sin...." Umar was then called and it was recited to him. He said: O Allah, give us a satisfactory explanation about wine. Then the following verse of Surat an-Nisa' was revealed: "O ye who believe! approach not prayers with a mind befogged...." Thereafter the herald of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would call when the (congregational) prayer was performed: Beware, one who is drunk should not come to prayer. Umar was again called and it was recited to him). He said: O Allah, give us a satisfactory explanation about wine. This verse was revealed: "Will ye not then abstain?" Umar said: We abstained.
Thumama (i. e. Ibn Hazn al-Qushairi) reported:
I met 'A'isha and asked her about Nabidh (that was served to the Holy Prophet). 'A'isha called an Abyssinian maid (servant) and said: Ask her (about it) for it was he, who prepared the Nabidh for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). The Abyssinian (maid-servant) said: I prepared Nabidh for him in a waterskin in the night and tied its mouth and then suspended it; and when it was morning he (the Holy Prophet) drank from it.
Jabir b 'Abdullah reported:
We were with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and he asked for water. A person said: Allah's Messenger, may we not give you Nabidh to drink? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Yes (you may). He (the narrator) said: Then that person went out speedily and brought a cup containing Nabidh, whereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: Why did you not cover it? - even if it is with a wood. He said that then he drank it.
It was narrated that Jabir bin ‘Abdullah said: “Nabidh would be made for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in a vessel of stone.”
Anas reported:
I served drink to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) in this cup of mine: honey, Nabidh, water and milk.
It was narrated that Sawdah, the wife of the Prophet, said:
"A sheep of ours died, and we tanned its skin, and continued to make Nabidh in it until it wore out."
Narrated 'Aishah:
"We would prepare Nabidh for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in a water-skin which was fastened at the top and it has a small hole. We would prepare Nabidh in it during the morning, and drink it during the evening. And we would prepare Nabidh in it during the evening and drink it during the morning." He said: There are narrations on this topic from Jabir, Abu Sa'eed, and Ibn 'Abbas. [Abu 'Eisa said:] This Hadith is Gharib, we do not know of it as a narration of Yunus bin 'Ubaid except through this route. This Hadith has also been reported through routes other than this from 'Aishah.
