S 53:19-23 So have you seen Al-Lat and Al-Uzza / And Manat, the third, the other? / Is for you the male and for him the female? / That then is an unfair division! / They are nothing but names you have named them, you and your fathers. Allah did not send down any authority for them. They follow nothing but supposition and what their souls have desired. And the guidance has come to them from their lord.

A Muslim will argue that these deities were invented, likely citing verse 23, "They are nothing but names you have named them". But nowhere does it say that the deities were invented. It speaks only of names. Allah sent no authority for the names. These deities of course were what the founder of Islam worshipped during the Satanic Verses incident.

In Asbab al-Nuzul for S 22:52 we read:

"The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, recited it but when he reached (Have ye thought upon al-Lat and al-'Uzza, and Manat, the third, the other) [53:19-20], the devil put on his tongue what he had secretly wished and hoped for and said: 'These are the mighty cranes (gharaniq) and their intercession is hoped for'." altafsir.com

Cranes are birds. Compare the above with this hadith:

Abu Umama said he heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) say:

Recite the Qur'an, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite It. Recite the two bright ones, al-Baqara and Surah Al 'Imran, for on the Day of Resurrection they will come as two clouds or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recite them. Recite Surah al-Baqara, for to take recourse to it is a blessing and to give it up is a cause of grief, and the magicians cannot confront it. (Mu'awiya said: It has been conveyed to me that here Batala means magicians.)

These gharaniq, Allah's daughters, intercede with Allah; quran comes like flocks of birds to intercede with Allah.

Does the author of quran completely exclude the existence of other deities?

From Ibn Kathir:

An-Nasa'i recorded that Abu At-Tufayl said, "When the Messenger of Allah conquered Makkah, he sent Khalid bin Al-Walid to the area of Nakhlah where the idol of Al-`Uzza was erected on three trees of a forest. Khalid cut the three trees and approached the house built around it and destroyed it. When he went back to the Prophet and informed him of the story, the Prophet said to him,

«ارْجِعْ فَإِنَّكَ لَمْ تَصْنَعْ شَيْئًا»

(Go back and finish your mission, for you have not finished it.) Khalid went back and when the custodians who were also its servants of Al-`Uzza saw him, they started invoking by calling Al-`Uzza! When Khalid approached it, he found a naked woman whose hair was untidy and who was throwing sand on her head. Khalid killed her with the sword and went back to the Messenger of Allah, who said to him,

«تِلْكَ الْعُزَّى»

S 7:194 Those whom you invoke instead of Allah are slaves the like of you. So invoke them, let them respond to you, if you are truthful.

Wouldn't this include Isa and the angels, both supposedly invoked?

Could idols be sentient or become sentient?

S 29:25 And he said: You have only taken idols instead of Allah out of affection among you in the dunya life. Then on the day of resurrection you renounce one another and curse one another and your abode is the fire and you have no helpers.
