S 9:28 Those who have believed, the mushrikun are only filth so let them not approach the Sacred Mosque after this year of theirs. And if you fear penury then Allah will enrich you from his favour, if he wills. Allah is learned, wise.
According to this, there were people known as mushrikun (associators) in Mecca, whom the author calls 'filth'. If we look at S 109 we find:
1 Say: Kafirun, 2 I do not worship what you worship 3 Nor do you worship what I worship 4 And I do not worship what you worship 5 Nor do you worship what I worship. 6 You have your religion and I have a religion.
The author worshipped Allah, and the Meccans didn't. But of course they both worshipped Allah.
Later on he would worship the three daughters of Allah.
What about the Christians? Let's look at some verses.
S 5:17 Disbelieved have those who have said: Allah, he is the Messiah the son of Maryam. Say: Then who dominates against Allah in a thing if he wants to destroy the Messiah the son of Maryam and his mother and all those on the Earth? And Lah’s is the dominion of the skies and the Earth and what is between them. He creates what he wills and Allah is mighty over everything.
S 5:72-73 Those who have said: Allah, he is the Messiah the son of Maryam, have disbelieved. And the Messiah said: Banu Isra’il, worship Allah, my lord and your lord. He who associates with Allah, Allah has forbidden him the Jannah and his shelter is the fire. And the wrongdoers have no helpers. Those who have said: Allah is the third of three have disbelieved. And there is no god but one god and if they have not desisted from saying it, painful torture will touch those who have disbelieved among them.
According to these, there were people, supposedly Christians, who called Allah the Messiah. There were also people, supposedly Christians, who said that Allah was the third of three. Regarding the first claim, the author speaks of one character. Where might any associating be? Regarding the second claim, Allah is the third of three what? The author fails to say. The author is mute as to whom the others might be and fails to show any associating.
There is the problem of quran's making a distinction between those given the Book and the kuffar, disbelievers.
S 5:57 Those who have believed, do not take those who have taken your religion as a quip and a game from those who were given the Book before you and the kuffar as protectors. And fear Allah if you are believers.
And there is the problem of quran's in a number of passages making a distinction between the People of the Book and the mushrikun.
S 2:105 Those who have disbelieved of the People of the Book do not like, nor the mushrikun, that any good should be sent down upon you from your lord. And Allah favours with his mercy whom he wills. And Allah is the possessor of the great favour.
S 98:1 Those who had disbelieved of the People of the Book and of the mushrikun were not to be dissolved until the proof should come to them,
S 98:6 Those who have disbelieved of the People of the Book and of the mushrikun are in the fire of Jahannam, abiding therein indefinitely. Those--they are the worst of creatures.
Following these previous verses, how might the Christians be in view? The author doesn't state that they are.
S 5:116 And when Allah said: Isa son of Maryam, did you say to people, Take me and my mother as two gods instead of Allah? He said: Praise be to you! It was not for me to say what I had no right to. If I had said it, you would have known. You know what is in my soul but I do not know what is in your soul. You are the knower of the ghuyub.
Now had they been worshipping Isa and Maryam as gods instead of Allah, where might the shirk be? They wouldn't have been worshipping Allah.
In S 9:30 the Jews are supposed to be worshipping some unknown Uzayr as the son of Allah, and the Christians Isa as the son of Allah. Were they doing so, where does it state that they were even worshipping Allah?
Let's look at a passage:
S 4:171 People of the Book, do not exceed in your religion nor say about Allah but the truth. The Messiah Isa Son Of Maryam is only Allah’s messenger and his word which he threw to Maryam and spirit from him. So believe in Allah and his messengers and do not say Three. Cease; it is better for you. Allah is only one god. Praise be to him that he should have a child! His is what is in the skies and what is on the Earth. And Allah was sufficient as an agent.
Is the Muslim to believe in Allah AND its messengers?
The false prophet said that he who swears by other than Allah is a mushrik; he swore by other than Allah, and so too did Allah itself.
Narrated Sa'd bin 'Ubaidah:
That Ibn 'Umar heard a man saying: "No by the Ka'bah" so Ibn 'Umar said: "Nothing is sworn by other than Allah, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'Whoever swears by other than Allah, he has committed disbelief or shirk.'"
Regarding swearing by the Ka'bah:
It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Yasar, from Qutailah, a woman from Juhainah, that a Jew came to the Prophet and said:
"You are setting up rivals (to Allah) and associating others (with Him). You say: 'Whatever Allah wills and you will,' and you say: 'By the Ka'bah.'" So the Prophet commanded them, if they wanted to swear an oath, to say: "By the Lord of the Ka'bah;" and to say: "Whatever Allah wills, then what you will."
Allah swears by literally EVERYTHING, and even by me.
S 90:3 By a begetter and what he begot.
The founder of Islam swore by a man too.
It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:
“A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: “O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), tell me, which of the people has most right to my good companionship?' He said: 'Yes, by your father, you will certainly be told.' He said: 'Your mother,' He said: 'Then who?' He said: Then your mother.' He said: 'Then who?' He said: Then your mother.' He said: 'Then who?' He said: Then your father.' He said: 'Tell me, O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about my wealth- how should I give in charity?' He said: 'Yes, by Allah (SWT) you will certainly be told. You should give in charity when you are still healthy and greedy for wealth, hoping for a long life and fearing poverty. Do not tarry until your soul reaches here and you say: “My wealth of for so-and-so,” and “My wealth of for so-and-so,” and it will be for them even though you dislike that.'”
Shirk is from the verb sharika.
Etymology 1[edit]
Verb[edit]
(obsolete) to have the shoe strings broken
(transitive) to share, to participate with (someone)
to become a partner, to be a participant, to be an associate شرك - Wiktionary, the free dictionary
In quran we find Allah deciding and forbidding with the author.
S 33:36 And it was not for a believing man or a believing woman when Allah and his messenger had decided on a matter that they should have a choice in their matter. And he who disobeys Allah and his messenger has clearly strayed.
S 9:29 Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the last day and do not forbid what Allah and his messenger have forbidden and do not submit to the religion of truth of those who were given the Book until they give the jizyah from subjection while they are abased.
Allah AND Its Messenger
Are they not partners? As the author calls people whom he calls mushrikun 'filth', what are he and Allah?
Now, a Muslim may call himself a muwahhid, which is one who unifies. He will speak of Tawhid 'Unification'. What is this? A unification of gods?
Note: Shirk does not mean 'polytheism', which is the belief in many gods. 'Polytheism' would be something like الإيمان بعدة آلهة Al-iman bi-'iddat alihah 'Belief in a number of gods'.
