The numbers in brackets are chronological numbers.
S 97:4 (25) The angels and the spirit descend therein with their lord’s permission, from every affair.
This may or may not refer to the Holy Spirit. It just says 'spirit'.
S 38:72 (38) So when I have smoothed him and blown into him from my spirit then fall down to him doing sujud.
S 19:17 (44) And she took from them a screen. Then we sent to her our spirit and it assumed for her the likeness of a regular man.
S 26:193 (47) The trustworthy spirit brought it down
S 17:85 (50) And they ask you about the spirit. Say: The spirit is from my lord’s affair. And you have not been given knowledge except a little.
50 surahs in and Allah's boss doesn't know what the spirit is. Now, if Jibril was the spirit for him, he could have said so. And Jibril wasn't saying anything. From Ibn Kathir:
(And they ask you concerning the Ruh.) Al-`Awfi reported that Ibn `Abbas said, "This was when the Jews said to the Prophet, `Tell us about the Ruh and how the Ruh will be punished that is in the body - for the Ruh is something about which only Allah knows, and there was no revelation concerning it.' He did not answer them at all, then Jibril came to him and said:
قُلِ الرُّوحُ مِنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّى وَمَآ أُوتِيتُم مِّن الْعِلْمِ إِلاَّ قَلِيلاً
(Say: "The Ruh (the spirit) is one of the things, the knowledge of which is only with my Lord. And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been given only a little.'') So the Prophet told them about that, and they said, `Who told you this' He said,
«جَاءَنِي بِهِ جِبْرِيلُ مِنْ عِنْدِ الله»
(Jibril brought it to me from Allah.) They said, `By Allah, no one has told you that except our enemy i.e., Jibril.' Then Allah revealed:
(Say: "Whoever is an enemy to Jibril (let him die in his fury), for indeed he has brought it (this Qur'an) down to your heart by Allah's permission, confirming what came before it.)'' 2:97 Ibn Al Kathir commentary for verse 17.85
Gabriel (supposedly Jibril) an enemy to the Jews? :)) The mug thought that they were being sincere.
Again from Ibn Kathir:
Reason why this Surah was revealed
Muhammad bin Ishaq mentioned the reason why this Surah was revealed. He said that an old man from among the people of Egypt who came to them some forty-odd years ago told him, from `Ikrimah that Ibn `Abbas said: "The Quraysh sent An-Nadr bin Al-Harith and `Uqbah bin Abi Mu`it to the Jewish rabbis in Al-Madinah, and told them: `Ask them (the rabbis) about Muhammad, and describe him to them, and tell them what he is saying. They are the people of the first Book, and they have more knowledge of the Prophets than we do.' So they set out and when they reached Al-Madinah, they asked the Jewish rabbis about the Messenger of Allah. They described him to them and told them some of what he had said. They said, `You are the people of the Tawrah and we have come to you so that you can tell us about this companion of ours.' They (the rabbis) said, `Ask him about three things which we will tell you to ask, and if he answers them then he is a Prophet who has been sent (by Allah); if he does not, then he is saying things that are not true, in which case how you will deal with him will be up to you. Ask him about some young men in ancient times, what was their story For theirs is a strange and wondrous tale. Ask him about a man who travelled a great deal and reached the east and the west of the earth. What was his story And ask him about the Ruh (soul or spirit) -- what is it If he tells you about these things, then he is a Prophet, so follow him, but if he does not tell you, then he is a man who is making things up, so deal with him as you see fit.' So An-Nadr and `Uqbah left and came back to the Quraysh, and said: `O people of Quraysh, we have come to you with a decisive solution which will put an end to the problem between you and Muhammad. The Jewish rabbis told us to ask him about some matters,' and they told the Quraysh what they were. Then they came to the Messenger of Allah and said, `O Muhammad, tell us,' and they asked him about the things they had been told to ask. The Messenger of Allah said,
«أُخْبِرُكُمْ غَدًا عَمَّا سَأَلْتُمْ عَنْه»
(I will tell you tomorrow about what you have asked me.) but he did not say `If Allah wills.' So they went away, and the Messenger of Allah stayed for fifteen days without any revelation from Allah concerning that, and Jibril, peace be upon him, did not come to him either. The people of Makkah started to doubt him, and said, `Muhammad promised to tell us the next day, and now fifteen days have gone by and he has not told us anything in response to the questions we asked.' The Messenger of Allah felt sad because of the delay in revelation, and was grieved by what the people of Makkah were saying about him. Then Jibril came to him from Allah with the Surah about the companions of Al-Kahf, which also contained a rebuke for feeling sad about the idolators. The Surah also told him about the things they had asked him about, the young men and the traveler. The question about the Ruh was answered in the Ayah;
وَيَسْـَلُونَكَ عَنِ الرُّوحِ قُلِ الرُّوحُ
(And they ask you concerning the Ruh (the spirit); say: "The Ruh...'') 17:85. Ibn Al Kathir commentary for verses 18.1-5
S 18 is something like the 69th surah to be 'revealed'.
[S 12:87] (53) My sons, go and enquire about Yusuf and his brother and do not despair of Allah’s refreshment. None despairs of Allah’s refreshment but the kafirun people.
Rauh 'refreshment' and ruh 'spirit' are spelled alike. It seems likely that someone misunderstood the word.
S 15:29 (54) So when I have smoothed him and blown into him from my spirit fall down to him doing sujud.
S 40:15 (60) The elevated of degrees, possessor of the throne. He throws the spirit of his command upon whom he wills of his slaves to warn of the day of meeting.
(Allah) is here called 'the elevated of degrees'. How might someone speak of a deity that is supposedly God as being of a degree? Which degree of whatever sort is Allah of?
The spirit here is supposedly Jibril. Does this mean that Allah's boss wasn't the last messenger/prophet?
S 42:52 (62) And thus have we inspired you with a spirit from our command. You did not know what the book was nor faith. But we made it a light. We guide therewith whom we will of our slaves. And you guide to a straight path,
S 16:2 (70) He sends down the angels with the spirit of his command upon whom he wills of his slaves: Warn that there is no god but me so fear.
S 16:102 Say: The Holy Spirit has brought it down from your lord in truth to make those who have believed firm and as guidance and good news for the Muslims.
70 surahs in we get the first mention of the Holy Spirit.
S 21:91 (73) And the one who guarded her private part and we blew into her from our spirit and we made her and her son a sign to the ‘alamin.
S 32:9 (75) Then he smoothed him and blew into him from his spirit and made you hearing and vision and hearts. Little is what you thank.
S 70:4 (79) The angels and the spirit ascend to him on a day whose amount was 50,000 years
S 78:38 (80) On a day the spirit and the angels stand in a row, they do not speak except him whom Al-Rahman has permitted for him and he said correctness.
S 2:87 (87) And we gave Musa the Book and sent the messengers after him. And we gave Isa son of Maryam the proofs and supported him with the Holy Spirit. So has every time a messenger come to you with what your souls do not desire you have been arrogant? So a party you accused of lying and a party you kill.
S 2:253 Those messengers--we preferred some of them to others. Of them he whom Allah spoke to and raised some of them in degrees. And we gave Isa son of Maryam the proofs and supported him with the Holy Spirit. And had Allah willed, those after them would not have fought one another, after what the proofs had come to them. But they differed, so of them is he who believed and of them he who disbelieved. And had Allah willed they would not have fought one another, but Allah does what he wants.
S 4:171 (92) People of the Book, do not exceed in your religion nor say about Allah but the truth. The Messiah Isa the son of Maryam is only a messenger of Allah’s and his word which he threw to Maryam and spirit from him. So believe in Allah and his messengers and do not say Three. Cease; it is better for you. Allah is only one god. Praise be to him that he should have a child! His is what is in the skies and what is on the Earth. And Allah was sufficient as an agent.
S 58:22 (105) You do not find a people believing in Allah and the last day having affection for those who have opposed Allah and his messenger even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their clan. Those--he has written faith in their hearts and supported them with spirit from him. And he admits them to jannat, rivers running beneath them, abiding therein indefinitely. Allah was pleased with them and they were pleased with him. Those are Allah’s party. Indeed, Allah’s party are the successful.
S 66:12 (107) And Maryam daughter of Imran who fortified her private part and we blew into it from our spirit. And she believed in her lord’s words and his books. And she was of the obedient.
S 5:110 (112) When Allah said: Isa son of Maryam, remember my grace upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Holy Spirit when you speak to the people in the cradle and in middle age. And when I taught you the book and the wisdom and the Torah and the Injil. And when you create from the clay as the form of the bird with my permission and blow into it and it is a bird with my permission and you heal the blind man and the leper with my permission and when you bring out the dead with my permission. And when I restrained the Banu Isra’il from you when you brought them proofs and those who disbelieved of them said: This is nothing but obvious magic.
In S 17, which is something like the 50th in order of 'revelation', Jib fails to identify itself as the spirit or as the Holy Spirit when Allah's boss is tested by the Jews, and up to S 5, which is something like the 112th in order of 'revelation', still no clarification as to what the spirit or Holy Spirit is for Allah's boss.
